Need Help with Kernel Panic on MacBook Pro
Posted by: magicmikey
Date: June 08, 2015 11:41AM
I have a 13" Mid-2012 MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHz I5 processor and 16 GB of RAM running OS 10.10.3 using an internal SSD for the system and apps. I have started getting kernel panics over the last few days and I'm trying to determine the cause. I'll be using my Mac and it will suddenly restart. On two occasions, it just shut down. I'm wondering if the issues are software based or hardware based and hoping someone can find something useful in the most recent report. I haven't added any peripherals lately but there have been two software changes. One is I installed Perfect Photo Suite 9.5 and I'm trying to keep an eye out to see if it only occurs when I have Perfect Browse open. (It may be a coincidence but I started noticing some issues around the time I installed the suite and Perfect Browse is often left open. In addition, Perfect Browse has shut down several times on it's own.) The other software change is ColorMunki Photo. It got updated some time in the last month (I'm not sure when) but I had a few issues with it on getting good monitor profiles with it until I used a script to delete it completely and reinstalled it. I did that yesterday but I just had my latest kernel panic a moment ago.

I do have a FireWire 800 external hard drive connected and a 20" Dell monitor connected.

Here's what I've done, thus far. I did repair permissions and I ran Apple Diagnostics to check it yesterday. Nothing showed up.

Here's the complete report from the latest kernel panic:

I'd look at RAM as a trouble shooting step, since you have 16GB you've probably upgraded. Do you have the original Apple RAM to swap back in to see if the problem goes away.

As another step, try running with a single 8GB stick at a time to see if the problem follows one of the sticks.

What do you have plugged in via USB?

What do you have plugged in via USB?

I have a USB hub which has my Logitech mouse, my Wacom tablet and my Brother laser printer connected to it.

I'd suggest pulling everything but PS.
Add stuff 1 by 1 starting with FW drive.
Then the USB hub(s).
Try to recreate the KP with each new add.
My personal suspicion is a USB device or it's plug is unhappy.

Un-install DuetDisplay and see if that resolves your issue.

Try running it as a new user. But first try booting into Safe Mode. Just because of the new software. But I agree that it is more likely a hardware issue.

I'm going to try it without DuetDisplay installed. I've had that suggested on more than one forum. If that doesn't isolate it, I'll start trying other things.

Thanks. Someone else mentioned to look at if that was the cause of the trouble but I didn't check if the control center had an update that needed to be installed.
