Should I be worried? Could THAT be the cause of my random lockups? (separate thread)

Might be more helpful to have a screenshot and/or a sample of text from the log.

For a generally troublesome Mac, I suggest that you run an Adware Medic scan and look at an Etrecheck report to start with.

If there's anything in red in the Etrecheck report and you can't figure out whether it's of any importance then copy and paste that portion of the report here and I/we'll have a run at it.

spamming you log file?

I simply assumed the OP meant there are errors galore from a possible bad drive, but the exact context is a bit unclear.

I ran Adware Medic and it found one problem--Conduit/Firefox extension--which I deleted. I ran it again and it came back okay. Then I donated. smiling smiley Is there another step I need to do? (Delete some Firefox user profile? I'm not using Firefox anymore, BTW. I'm using Safari.)

Then I ran EtreCheck and here are the red items. (If something was listed as loaded or running, I removed that line from the list below.)

Startup Items:
EyeConnect: Path: /Library/StartupItems/EyeConnect
Startup items are obsolete in OS X Yosemite

Launch Agents:
failed com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist [Click for support]
failed syncmateStarter.plist [Click for support]

Launch Daemons:
failed openbase.plist [Click for support]
failed rapiback.plist [Click for support]

User Launch Agents:
failed com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent.plist [Click for support]
not loaded jp.co.canon.Inkjet_Extended_Survey_Agent.plist [Click for support]

Time Machine:
Size of backup disk: Too small
Backup size 999.86 GB < (Disk used 691.55 GB X 3)

Note: I don't use EyeConnect or syncmate anymore.

Some adware installers mess with your home page and search engine settings and AdwareMedic doesn't necessarily fix that, so double-check your Firefox home page and do a test- search to make sure that it's using Google or Yahoo.

...

The stuff that Etrecheck identifies are items that generally are old, obsolete and either aren't loaded at all or have components that aren't designed for your OS and could be causing trouble. Often, some of it has already been partly uninstalled. Not all of the related files may be there...

• EyeConnect is from an old ElGato EyeTV device. It probably hasn't run properly since you had Snow Leopard on that Mac.
[help.elgato.com]

• com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist is from ancient Blackberry sync software and should not be on any Mac these days. Delete any Blackberry apps from your Applications folder, look for and remove if present:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.rim.BBDaemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.rim.nkehelper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.rim.tunmgr.plist
/Library/Frameworks/RimBlackBerryUSB.framework
/System/Library/Extensions/BlackBerryUSBDriverInt.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBVSP.kext

• Uninstall obsolete SyncMate software:
/Library/Application Support/EltimaSyncMate
/Library/Application Support/EltimaSyncMate/SyncMateServer.app
/Library/Application Support/EltimaSyncMate/BackService.app
/Library/LaunchAgents/syncmateStarter.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/rapiback.plist
/System/Library/Extensions/EltimaAsync.kext

• Openbase... Not sure what that's from. Were you running phone/voicemail software or point-of-sale terminal software on your Mac a decade ago? Look for and remove:
/Applications/OpenBase/
/Library/OpenBase/
/Library/PreferencePanes/OpenBase.prefPane
/Library/Java/Extensions/OpenBaseJDBC.jar
/Library/Automator/ExecuteSQL.action
/Library/Automator/StartDatabase.action
In /Library/Frameworks remove any file with OpenBase in the name

• com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent.plist is from an ancient Google contacts-sync hack. The jp.co.canon.Inkjet_Extended_Survey_Agent.plist file is yet another reason to hate Canon printers - they install all sorts of useless cr@p on your computer along with the driver. Find them both in the hidden Library folder in your Home folder. Hold down the option key when you click on the "Go" menu in the Finder and select the "Library" folder from that menu. In the Library folder, look for the LaunchAgents folder and from the LaunchAgents folder, remove the com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent.plist file and the jp.co.canon.Inkjet_Extended_Survey_Agent.plist file.

...

Important: Reboot your Mac after removing those files. You're messing with fairly low-level stuff in your operating system.

I've been using the heck out of my computer today (Photoshop project, FB in the background, music playing...) and haven't had a bit of a problem. That Firefox thing might've done it, but only time will tell.

I'll remove those files you mention, but will leave things as they are for the moment. Better to proceed cautiously, right?

I think OpenBase has something to do with SOHO Organizer/Notes. (Used to be StickyBrain.)

We keep upgrading the hardware and cloning the drives. Probably not the best upgrading strategy anymore.

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!

There's been many posters in this forum infected with adware. Seems helpful to offer assistance for those wanting to clean it out.

Macs don't get viruses and antivirus software doesn't protect against most malware including adware.

So, that's the opening the bad guys took.

They pay companies like Cnet andd Softonic to distribute their malware and it gets installed alongside the otherwise legit apps you thought you were getting.

Rule of thumb for the modern world: If you're going to download software, do it only from the creator's web site.

He does, but it's on the darknet.

Of course. 21st century and times are tough without one. Got to reach the masses, right?
