PSA: Don't be an idiot and wait too long to register your AppleCare

Embarrassed to admit this. I'm opening myself up to ridicule, but if it saves one other person...

Got a great deal on a 15" MBPr from Adorama last July, and it included AppleCare. I delayed registering because I was also considering purchasing a MacBook for my son in the following months, and I guess I thought it would give me a little flexibility if a problem were to arise with one or the other. That doesn't make much sense right now, but I figured I had a year.

Procrastinator that I am, I finally got around to activating it today, thinking I ordered around the 26th. Didn't get it until early August because I was on a 2 week vacation, and I had it shipped to my parents' house. Big pit in my stomach when I looked up my receipt and found that the order was placed on July 17 and the shipment arrived on July 22.

Not the end of the world since I can apply it to a future Mac, but I'll be sweating it out the next two years. Then again, if I don't have any issues, I'll feel like a genius.

You'll be fine. You had me cringing. I was like NOOOOOOO!

I've been told that there is a 3 day grace period if you call - give it a try.

I wait to the bitter end, too, even though I always keep new machines at least 3 three years. I think it's just stubbornness against the thought that I have to blow yet another couple of C notes on something for which I paid multiple C notes already. My last purchase was 11th hour, as usual.

Yeah, just call ‘em. I’d be astonished if they wouldn’t let you register it, especially since you bought it a year ago.

Eh, I forgot to apply mine to my iMac bought in Jan 2013. They let me apply it this February when the HD crapped out.

I was sweating, no doubt.. but they were very relaxed about it.

We've never bought AppleCare and never had a problem with an Apple computer--from the desktops we used to buy nor the 4 laptops we've bought over the last decade. I've always planned on using the AMEX double warranty if there's a problem in the second year of ownership.

Now, the Dell I'm typing on now is another story. But, this one is cheap enough that when Win 10 is out and stable I'll just toss this one and replace it.

This happened to me a few years ago and AppleCare had me take the MacBook to the genius bar for inspection. If it had no problems, the Genius could activate the AppleCare. If you have a nearby Apple Store you may call AppleCare to see if this is an option.

This happened to me, too. I just called them and emailed the receipt to prove I purchased it at the same time I got the Mac. They were like, OK, fine.
