If the perp has a weapon, that's a double felony right there (at least in WA state). My solution is a cross draw holster, and pump a few rounds into the guy trying to pull me out of my car.

My solution: Good, plentiful jobs and a high-quality education system.

Well they were 16, and it's a bit tough finding jobs that pay $40,000/hr at that age, so they tried the quick route. I guess it would have been split 3 ways, so $13,333/hr each if they had succeeded. Actual profit would have been lower once they paid their middle man subcontractor expenses to sell it.

OTOH, if their parents were making decent money and the kids were going to school, studying at night and had afternoon jobs, you'd have nothing to to ridicule.

No, if parents did their jobs and taught their kids to be decent human beings, their wouldn't be a problem.

Their are dirt poor people ALL OVER THE PLANET, and they still manage to treat others decently. And some don't. Poverty doesn't make people treat others like crap, poor/no positive role models and growing up without consequences does.

Wow it was so interesting to hear and see that synced up. My questions.... What was mistake 3? And did he edit out most of the interior vehicle sounds? You can hear engine noise and later the "door open" ding but is there really complete silence from the thieves the whole time?

Same questions as Disaster. How come the thieves don't talk? I understand there were 2 guys in the car, right?

That was an edited video - I bet the sound was created from an effects library layered with the 911 call.

"Same questions as Disaster. How come the thieves don't talk?"

Possibly legal issues due to recording conversations without notification?

At the beginning it stated the video's sound was edited out. All you get is the 911 call.

Traffic signal light standards are bolted down solidly unlike highway lighting like along freeways which is designed to breakaway. The perps were lucky to survive.

Perhaps if the perps didn't have ready access to guns they wouldn't be out committing grand theft auto and hijacking no matter the parenting or the jobs.

Looked at the road signs and it looks like it was in Wichita Kansas.

Here's the intersection.

You can single frame through the crash, see the impact before the airbags deploy. I think the dashcam came loose or the jeep flipped.

The DashCam was showing speeds of 74, 59, and then 43 MPH before impact.

Did anyone else have problems with 911 operators attention to detail in the beginning??

Guy: My Blue 2015 Jeep just got stolen...

911: What color was the vehicle.....

Guy: There were 2 guys with guns and one guy in a car

911: How many were there??

etc....

Yes, it might be,
OTOH, it is a standard interrogation technique to ask for the same details from different angles to verify consistency of the subject....

The ongoing questions don't mean they haven't already dispatched help. During college I spent some work time as a dispatcher for a 120 cab fleet. There were any number of occasions I'd get a call for help and once I cleared the air from other calls I'd keep in touch with the cabbie in trouble and relay that through one of our operators to Boston PD - who sometimes even responded.

One comes to mind. A rookie cabbie was about 3 blocks from our garage outside a bank in Kenmore Square (think Fenway Park) and witnessed a robbery in progress. When he radioed me I could tell the kid was in some sort of shock and wanted to know what to do. I cleared all air traffic and hit the police phone button. From that point I was talking to the cabbie and the operator who was then relaying the info to the cops.

The Cabbie followed them until they crossed into Brookline and then I was communicating to that PD. They were caught somewhere near Boston College. The kid who broke up the robbery lost a days pay and never got as much as a thank you from anyone but us. Cops didn't care where the info came from. Bank didn't either.

They're already entering the info while asking questions. Just a little not great that she didn't ask for the plate of the jacked vehicle for kind of a while. But still she could never work in the Chicago call center-- way too good, would probably be bullied out the door in a few days.

No such thing. Someone committing a criminal act has no reasonable expectation of privacy.

It may be related to the general inadmissibility of a audio recording in court, since you can't see who's doing the talking. Also, it could *possibly* provide some help in identifying the alleged suspects, which usually isn't allowed when dealing with minors.

The operator is probably following a script so nothing is missed, completing the info on computer which might go out to the MDTs in cars on the street.

And even when somebody blurts out usable information, a dedicated response to a deliberate question is desired And noted that in almost every instance where she asked a question he already "answered" she got a little more information.

It seemed to take awhile to get to the plate information, but knowing the plate doesn't help much if you don't know what vehicle to look for. She asked for the tag number a second time. It's possible that the RP gave the wrong plate and she caught it when checking their DMV.

With the edited audio, it's hard to tell if she's also working radio as well as the call. That wouldn't be the case in a larger department, but there's a lot we don't know.

All in all, she did a damn fine job. The victim was fairly cool, considering.

I have *no* idea if the offered "solution" would have made a bit of difference in this case, but it *might* have made a big improvement in the quality of comments offered on YouTube.

Or not.

The guy mentions he has some tracking software on his tablet which was in the Jeep. I think this is it:

Heh! I was going to recommend S/T not do that. He might also be involved in a police pursuit! smiley-laughing001

I'm glad the thugs were caught. No one should have to experience an A-Hole shoving a gun in their face and being robbed. The victim will have a hard time getting over this robbery.

I bet there were very few horse thieves that were hung on whimsical hearsay. Unlike modern journalistic trial by media inflamed hysteria .

Stealing a man's horsepower now isn't the same has stealing a horse back "then".

This wasn't a capital offense, but I hope they're tried as adults.

Yes. As calm as he was, you could still hear the fear.

A few years back, someone held up a Baskin-Robbins just before closing. The three employees, two girls and a boy, 18 and 17 yrs old, were robbed for $60ish, and told they were going to be killed. They were put on their knees, backs to the gunman and told to say their prayers. They were crying and hysterical; the gunman quietly fled leaving them to think they were going to die at any second. Afterwards they apologized. They apologized for being terrorized.

There are those moments when due process becomes a tenuous concept.
