Ghostery, to stop the browser from reporting to sites without my permission. Speeds things up quite a bit, too.

None at all…and I and my computer like it that way.

I'm perplexed as to why people feel these are useful. Safari and the OS have much of the functionality of some of these extensions built-in:

1Password --> Keychain Utility
Shortly --> a bookmarks bar link to tinyurl.com, etc.
Instapaper --> Reading List
uBlock --> Reader

Adblock --> uninstalling Flash takes care of the most obnoxious ads
UserAgentSwitcher --> Develop menu: User Agent

In fact, some good reasons to.

Malvertising is a silent killer because malicious ads do not require any type of user interaction in order to execute their payload. The mere fact of browsing to a website that has adverts (and most sites, if not all, do) is enough to start the infection chain.

These latest attacks didn't affect sites that deal in torrents, warez, porn, etc., and they certainly aren't obscure. They are well-known, reputable, highly-trafficked sites.

I don't think anyone except Adobe would object to a Flash-free web, but pragmatically-speaking there are still sites that require it, as there are that require IE to function properly. For those who still must have it installed, and use it, it would be foolish to run without some sort of prophylactic.

Browsing smartly alone can't protect against all evils.

I set a master password for Firefox and allow it to handle web passwords. Keychain for some others. A pencil and a notebook for others.

In Firefox:

uBlock Origin
Self-Destructing Cookies - Recommended on a thread here recently. Whitelist sites allowed to have cookies
EFF Privacy Badger - Newer ad network blocker. Evaluating.
Disconnect - Older ad network blocker

Omnibar - Single search & URL bar like Chrome
Close Button - Adds a Close Tab button on the toolbar
Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar

Oh also set Flash plugin to "Ask to Activate" built into Firefox, no extension needed.
