After 15 years of upgrading from my Mac512/SE/IIci/7100/8100/G3/Wallstreet/Pismo/QS800 to a dualMDD_1.25, operating in OSX/Classic was a big step for me last year. Now no more Classic? I'm so tired. Will I ever get there from here? Who'll Stop The Rain?

There's really no reason to ever upgrade again. Your current setup, aside from the hardware wear and tear and replacement, could last the rest of your life.

Hey, I was only a Mac 128k -> Mac Plus -> Mac SE -> Mac IIci -> Centris 610 -> PowerMac 6100 -> PowerCenter 132 -> PowerBook G3/233 -> iBook 700mhz -> dual 1Ghz G4 upgrader myself, but i feel the pain...

The pace of change and growth will continue. There's understandable moments of consumer fatigue. Sometimes you feel like a lab rat that's being experimented on. Only in this case the test subjects are required to keep pulling out their checkbooks and credit cards.

But, in a sense, you are a new mac user. OS X is fresh stuff, even though it's no longer brand new. If you're just NOW cutting loose from so-called "classic", and found that experience to be a "big step", the reason you might feel the fatigue is that you a few steps behind, eating the dust of those who shed the unstable nightmare of Mac OS 7-9 years earlier. I'd hope that you're enjoying the benefits of a more stable and rewarding computing experience, and you'd be getting your second wind by now.

Being too far out front can be problematic (not to mention expensive) and being just behind the curve can be problematic, too. Somewhere in between is the sweet spot, not too far out, not too far back.

Computing power, storage space, memory, and internet resources, are more affordable, abundant, easier to adapt, integrate, and enjoy. I've been using (and being used by) computers and software for at least as long as you have, and it's only been the last three years that it feels fresh, like it's finally starting to make sense.

The journey is just starting to get interesting, don't poop out on us now, brother! We're headin' for the Promised Land!

you guys make me feel bad, here I am:
6100/Beige G3/Dual 2.0 G5

Only pain I would feel in another upgrade is in my wallet.

My G5 is still rockin' the free world, just upgraded to 3.5GB RAM, added a second 160GB SATA drive plus another 120GB PATA drive for the mp3's ;), also upgraded to the Radeon 9800 (from the 9600), and I swapped out the stock SuperDrive for an 8x model.

Can't see any upgrades in the near future, except maybe a second video card, the Radeon 9200 PCI, and just maybe another hard drive, although I would do well to make it external.

If you ever get to the point that you resent change, kill yourself.

People that commit suicide are usually killing the wrong person.

The dang thing probably still works fine too, does everything it was ever designed to do. Only problem is people keep coming up with new applications to be run on a computer and this forces the hardware to advance to keep up.

As far as I know, software has always been ahead of the hardware, especially when it came to the release of OS X. Only now are we seeing hardware that can really show it off well.
