Need "1" 100' Hose and "2" Hose Reels... Any suggestions?

I'm a giant procrastinator... I've lived at my house for almost a year and have yet to purchase a hose reel... Need one for the front and one for the back... Have a 7-1/2 year old and a 10 year old... They will most likely be using it to take the hose out but most likely I'll be the one actually rolling it up... Need something that will hold up.

Suggestions?

I lived in my house for a year and a half before buying a hose reel so don't feel too bad. Did alot of research and the only one that stands up to usage and the elements is an Eley brand hose reel. Heavy weight aluminum, brass and rubber parts. Get ready for sticker shock, they go for $150-200. They rarely (if ever) go on discounted sale. You might get a free shipping offer. Or maybe a free brass quick connect kit as a "Spring Sale". So no need to wait around for a discounted sale.

If you get cold winters a cart is nice, so you can wheel the heavy 100' hose into the garage at the end of the season while you winterize the hose bib. If there's no danger of frost, a wall mount is cheaper and more tidy.

If your budget is below $100 a reel... good luck!

Ain't that the truth! I finally abandoned my sub-$100 search and decided that my deep window wells are God's answer to the hose reel question. emoticon-animal-022

Don't buy anything that is plastic. Just don't. Make sure whatever you get is metal or it isn't going to last.

When I first got it, i was afraid to leave it by the side of the house in plain view when no one's home. That's like leaving a $200 bill in the driveway! I got over it, thinking, no one's gonna pay any mind to a garden hose reel. How's anyone supposed to know it cost $200. Then my father-in-law comes over, the first thing he says to me is,"Nice hose reel. Must've been expensive." Arghh It's now tucked behind a garbage can out of view from the casual person passing by. It winds and unwinds like buttah. It's a pleasure to whip out my hose every chance I get winking smiley

Maybe just one very good hose reel and another 50' added to my hose and just move it between the front and back.

I don't think 150' of typical 5/8 garden hose will fit on the Eley reel. You might want to shoot them an eMail. They respond pretty fast IIRC.

I've been living here for 20 years and yet to buy a hose reel. The same green Craftsman rubber hose
has survived 3 houses and is now 31 years old. It's perfectly happy coiled up in the flowerbed in the
back of the house in any kind of weather. I drain it each time we use in the winter.

Doesn't make sense to spend all that money on a reel, for a hose that only cost $35

I think it was like $15 when I bought it through the catalog store. It's much heavier then the black rubber
ones they have now. We have 3 black rubber Craftsman hoses around the farm and they seem to also be doing well.

Ended up purchasing last night and grabbed my free quick connect and purchased an extra female fitting for my second reel... Was only going to purchase one but ended up grabbing two wall mounted reels... One for my front yard and one for my back yard... Expensive but... Figured I'm never moving and yes... Sick of the POS plastic ones!

Now to purchase a second 100' hose!!! Rubber? I have "2" 50 foot craftsman hoses from a year ago which I like. So, should I just grab another couple or one 100 footer and be done with it?

Since you already have a 100-footer, i would go with two 50-footers for the next one. Keep them connected and wound on the reel. If the need ever arises that you need a shorter one, you can always split them up for let's say a sprinkler, or kids water spray backyard toy thing.

Not sure if it's a quality issue or not with rubber hoses, but the old rubber hose I inherited with the house purchase left black marks on my hands. Went with vinyl instead.
