Question Setting up Dual Band Router

So you give an SSID for both bands?
Passwords for both?

So do I mentioned the speed in the SSID it broadcasts?

Have two of these Archer C9 or AC1900 from TP-Link, and going to set one up as an access point.

The default names we had had 2.4 and 5.0 as part of their names. Made it easier when I set up custom names.

Yup, it's like having two routers. But you can make the password the same for both, which makes it easier. I have "5G" attached to the 5.0 SSID name. Not all clients can use the 5G, but 5G clients use either; its' nice to easily direct the 5G people to the one that's special for them.

You can give them both the same name, and allow devices to choose which band to connect to.

But the problem is that not all devices do a good job choosing, and there's less certainty and control than having two separate networks...so most prefer the latter.

Yeah, that's my experience. I have good signal on both bands, but my device might lock into the 2.4 band anyway.

Yes, I next question this morning, since I just switched over and using the FIRST TP-LINK as an Access point now, was, ok, I go to wireless on the iPhone, which one do I choose. 2.4 or 5.

But will get more experience as I use it today.

So I ran the speedtest on iphone 5s, and it came in at 51.67 vs od 19.01 Download

and 42.11 vs 14.90 upload.

Big improvement.

Edit more...\\

above was 2.4

Choosing the 5.0 I got 73.24 down and 76.68 up, why did I wait so long to get a new router.??

I used the same password as my old Buffalo Router on both 2.4 and 5.0, but the phone logged in without asking for a PW, will have to investigate

You could save both and see if the iPhone is smart enough to switch between the two. Or just try the 5 GHz network if range is good enough.
