OH NO!!!! Not enough trick or treaters...

Now I am stuck with all this candy.

We live on the very outer edge of town. We had 8 kids come to the house. They left with handfuls of candy and there still is too much left.

How many trick or treaters did you have this year?

A few more than you, but not a whole lot. But it's 29 degrees with a wind chill in the single digits, so it's keeping the numbers down.

We get between 80 and 137, lowest was October 2001, when FUD was at its highest.

We never have any anymore. We live in a subdivision with only about 20 houses and they are all on multi-acre lots, so they are very far apart. All the kids would rather go to the close together subdivisions where you can score mucho candy without walking for miles. My daughter even went to her friend's house to Trick or Treat her neighborhood rather than ours.

When we first moved here I would load up on candy and we would have about 10 kids, then we would have candy left for months. Now I don't even buy any. I had a bag of individually wrapped peppermints in the pantry, just in case. They didn't even get opened. sad smiley

We haven't had any for years - we live a mile down an unpaved road - with a driveway that is 1/4 mile long.

That coupled with only 3 trick or treat aged kids in our immediate neighborhood and a HUGE event downtown where the kids go from shop to shop means we won't have any coming to our door.

Later in the evening we used to get the high school kids, dressed up as "high school kids" coming around, they had big hands and big appetites. If one more kids rings the bell tonight, tell them they won the candy lottery.

Zero trick or treaters. I didn't even buy candy this year. I haven't had any in 15 years.

There is a school across the street and they have some kind of carnival and I think most people take their kids there.

It doesn't make sense to me to send your children around to strangers houses at night accepting candy.

It also doesn't make much sense for me to open my door at night to strangers on Halloween or any other night.

I've been in this 'hood for seven years, never had a single trick-or-treater. The houses are packed in tight in this area too.

I think most people around here understand that it's not a reward to kids to give them a bunch of candy, but more of a punishment.

A few years ago we moved to an area adjoining the forest, with no street lights. There are no trick or treaters here and when our kids were of age we took them to other neighborhoods (after hitting up the neighbors we knew). It's kinda sad.

At our previous house we had a gazillion trick or treaters...some of them a little scary even. I thought it was great and would always dress up and greet the little kids and praise their costumes. Even the high schoolers who were barely dressed up and had deep voices were welcome. Just like my own daughter, they were caught between wanting to be a little kid and wanting to grow up (and wanting to score some candy). I love halloween, I love dressing up as a character I would like to be, and I love making the kids happy. What's not to like? We often have a halloween party (costume required), but couldn't get it together this year.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Between 70 to 80 this year. Had a high of 300 about 10 years ago. I think the tradition is dying a slow death. Too bad, when I was a kid I really enjoyed T&T.
I live on a main boulevard with the houses close to each other; prime T&T territory.

About 45 as of 7:30pm. I'm happy with it -- when we moved here five years ago, we got 5 the first year, and 2 the year after that. So now I decorate the house & put candle lanterns up and down the street and each year we get a few more coming this way. But still, on the other side of the street, only 2 of about 8 houses are handing out candy.

Many of the neighbors say they stopped handing out candy because so few kids were coming, so I'm trying to break that cycle. It bothers me that their advice is that I should take my son to some other neighborhood for trick or treating. Halloween isn't just candy and monsters: it's about being neighborly.

We have holidays you celebrate with your family, your church, your lover, your nation, your ethnicity. Halloween is the only holiday we have that we celebrate with our neighbors. When people say they feel weird taking their kids to strangers' houses, I tell them I think it's weird that their neighbors are strangers.

There are some serious problems in our society, and that's one of them.

I bought a bag of fun sized bars at Costco. You know how big that has to be. We must have had about twenty kids. We have way too much left! Heaven help us.

We were invited to our friend's house a gigantic Victorian home. I ended up maning the post ... handling out the candies. I think there were about 100 children showed up. It was great seeing them in various costumes, especially the lit' ones. The negative event of the night was an expensive stroller with two cell phones beloning to the guests at the house was stolen right off the backyard.

SoCal for now.

I got none....

yeah... on both accounts.

But at least on the first, it's because my apartment has a main entry that is locked
so you can't get into it unless you have a key (and live there) or buzz someone in.

One, a litte guy of about 5 or 6.
There are a gazillion kids around here but they walk over a few blocks and hit up the stores on the commercial drag, and make out like bandits. Too many quiet houses and locked gates and confusing upstairs/downstairs/ fron/side/rear entrance situations in the residential streets.
I didn't bother with candy (I'd just end up eating it all) so I did what I've done in past years-- held out a bag of leftover pocket change (mostly pennies, nickles, dimes, a few quarters) and let him grab a handful. I told him not to tell anyone-- last time the same kids came back again and again for more money :-)

A lot of people in this area have block parties during the summer. I always thought it'd be cool if the city helped promote that. I'm not sure how much the permits cost, but maybe if the city didn't charge for the permits for a month each year, it would stimulate neighborly acts.
