Things to do in/around Asheville

Trying to decide whether my trip to the Jam on Dec 12 should be more of a get in/get out kind of thing or if any time should be tacked on. Sounded like some of you are familiar.... also, do they have smoking in bars there?

No smoking in bars. There's lots to do besides smoking. A ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway with a few hikes, a vibrant in town scene including dozens of craft beer places, galleries and much more. Ask specific questions.

Haven't been, but it's a place I'd like to visit sometime, I've heard good things about the town.

Biltmore goes all out with their Christmas decorating if you enjoy that type of stuff.

We hike here all year. Yes, it gets cold sometimes, but most of the time, it's quite pleasant. There are low altitude hikes for the winter.

I'll be going to the Biltmore about a week before Xmas. We have a friend in Greenville SC, which isn't far.

If you're going to Biltmore, than get your tickets at the Asheville Visitor Center or AAA for a discount.

- Grove Park Inn (resort, spa, etc.), quite historic
- Downtown visiting shops, walking, vibe of city, etc., including Grove Arcade
- Lots of good restaurants including Tupelo Honey Cafe

Biltmore is cool, if pricy to tour, but worth it just to see the ground and gardens and maybe do a wine tasting if you'd rather skip the house itself.
