Anyone see any useful info in this crash report?
Posted by: Black
Date: October 25, 2015 07:29PM
Have found my main mac (2012 Mini/10.9.5) at login screen twice since last night- "your computer was restarted because of a problem." Anyone see any hints as to what happened in this mess?
Thx.

Panic.

Maybe a bad driver or bridge.

What external drives are attached? Other peripherals?

Happened again. As final step to my 2008 Mini upgrade I replaced its old internal (a 320 GB WD Black that has been a champ for an unbelievably long time) which I'd swapped into a FW enclosure with a new 750 GB drive. Last night I hooked the 750 up via FW and the 320 up via USB3 (to my main mac) to clone the 320 to the 750. Was apparently somewhere along in that process when it crashed (although the amount of data cloned seems to be about right-- 320 was showing about 208 GB used, 750 was showing 190-something). I ran the process again to make sure everything got cloned over and left early today to come back to restarted mac.... just now ran it again and the mac just went dark after a couple minutes.
Both drives come up 'happy' in Disk Utility.
Carbon Copy Cloner....

Never had a lick of trouble out of the FW enclosure (MacAlly)- hope it's not that b/c they've become pricey (FW800). The 750 was attached via one of those SATA to USB adapters. I just remembered that CCC gave a read error and seemed to sort of stop maybe a minute before the blackout. Meaning error reading the source drive?

Check the history in CCC.

Should show where the errors were.

Good idea, but no record of any of the three operations in the history.

Doing a large file copy to the 320 now to see if stressing it causes any problems.... this was the main drive in my Santa Rosa blackbook for several years and then the main drive in the 2009 Mini for 5+ years.... I've always been impressed with its performance but it would -really- defy the odds if it were still working perfectly at this point.

Search in the "All messages" list in the Console for the word "boot" and note the time when the Mac rebooted after the last panic.

Anything interesting in the logs right before the reboot?

A whole long list of these "deny" messages occurring over about 2 seconds...

Put in a help request through CCC's Help menu, be sure to include your logs, and Mike will check it tomorrow. The queue is pretty full but he should be able to get to it before the end of the day. I am not great at looking at logs (it's not my area any longer) but CCC will grab the system log in addition to CCC logs.

I think I've confirmed that my old 320 was the problem-- last night while trying to get a camera set up I was hanging at grey screen on restarts, and disconnecting the 320 let it continue. Could also be the USB adapter but I had the new drive on that one for a week or so without issue.
