Clone to SSD Smaller than Source HD: OK?

Number Two Son Nathan has cloned his MBP drive to his new SSD in an enclosure. The HD has 310GB on it; the SSD has only 291. There about 200 fewer files. I told him that this was probably because of temporary files that CCC (which he's using) does not bother copying over, and not to worry. Am I correct?
