hey cheapskates! where should i buy diapers?

back when i complained about the price of cat food going up some forumites recommended chewy.com - sooo much cheaper! wish i would have known about it sooner.

amazon seems to have good prices on diapers but their inventory can be a bit erratic. diapers.com looks reasonable. we were given a good amount of diapers before neil was born and haven't yet decided if we need to go organic.

where's the best place to buy diapers?

Things really haven't changed much in the diaper industry in the three weeks since you last asked this same question. Get thee to Costco.

matt,

Costco, diapers.com, Amazon.com, drugstore.com, see who has the best price, factor in coupons, tax and shipping. Don't forget additional cashback via places like ebates.com. Also, don't forget deals via your credit card provider like cashback and discount bonuses and special deals like Discover Deals, American Express Deals, Chase Deals. Be careful buying through places like Groupon. They don't always have solid deals. Last time, the prices for Pampers from them was higher than other places for the same size and count.

Since I got an amazing deal on a pack of Huggies, we're throwing them into the mix to see how Baby M handles them. We still like Pampers Swaddlers and Earth's Best Tendercare the best of the three types of diapers we've tried so far. For overall fit, Pampers are the best. But, in the end, whichever ones Baby M likes the most and we like the most on her are the ones we'll stick with, regardless of price.

How cheap are you?

Go find 3 dozen reusable cloth diapers and do what you grandmother did.

I've done both disposable and cloth and in my opinion, modern cloth all-in-ones were the cheapest and easiest. My oldest was all disposable, and blew out and leaked out of every diaper we could throw at him, be it store brand, Costco brand, top-of-the-line. Which meant we had to wash peed on or pooped on clothing pretty much every day, without a system for it, feeling like it was contaminating other clothes or running a special load for it. With our second we did cloth and she didn't leak or blow out regularly, shockingly. The rare times she did, we already had a daily diaper load to throw it in with. We bought the majority of our diapers used and then sold them for almost what we paid when we were done with them, so we spent almost nothing on diapers. We liked Bum Genius but there are many other quality brands on the market since 4 years ago. Cloth isn't for everyone but if you are cost conscious, it's worth a shot.

Formerly,

Cleaning facilities is key. This isn't an issue for private homes but a possible issue in a building. I don't know about where Matt lives but I'm fortunate to have a washer and dryer in my apartment. Most people in my building have to use the laundry room. Believe you me, I wouldn't want to have to drag loads of dirty cloth diapers down to a public laundry room.

It was annoying enough for our laundry when we lived in an apartment without a full-size washer dryer. Now, with loads each day or two or multiple times per day? What a pain! And, that's not taking into consideration the ick factor of using a public laundry room.

Then there's the expense of using the public machines... Glad I don't have that anymore. It wasn't cheap!

The idea that a pre inserted "daddy brain" is one you have may be the first idea you want to jettison. No such thing exists.

Your current brain is subject to mommy yours; mommy hers; daddy yours, hers, your dads, your moms and your sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles and the few guy relationships you held onto beyond puberty.

I assume this is your first, good luck and stay healthy.

Costco, unless Target, Kmart, Walmart, etc have coupons/codes that end up better... new kid will probably be pooping in diapers for awhile, so it's an ongoing challenge. What I can say,is when a true RYF deal hits; stock up.

Familiarize yourself with diaper pricing like the stock market. Recognize when there's a good RYF sale, and buy heavily. Even if it's not the current size you need, buy as much as you can fit into your home. Unless your kid is a potty trained savant, he/she/it WILL eventually use them. This is only for RYF sale, otherwise it's really not worth the effort to store all those giant boxes.

Target has random Clearance/damage box sales on diapers. It's random and not worth the effort to track it. But if you're already there, and you see some for 50% off because the box is messed up. Grab them all.
