Am I going to regret updating from 8.1.2 to 9.1 on my iPhone 5s? I think I found what looks like it could be a nice replacement for Mailbox app (Spark). I downloaded it and tried to install it, but it requires at least iOS 8.4. I don't mind having to get used to a slightly new look, as long as stuff doesn't break or really slow down. I figure iOS 9 has been out way long enough that any pressing issues would have been resolved, so I'm tempted to go for the update. Yay or nay?

Well, you'll have to move quickly if you want 9.1 since Apple just released 9.2 today. I would guess the 9.1 signing window will be open for about a week and then only 9.2 will be available.

That being said, I have not had any issues with iOS 9.

Yes, I started out using it, but admittedly haven't tried it in a while. The thing is, I use GMail as my main email and route my business email and a couple of other email addresses through GMail for its filtering. I found it much easier to get up GMail to do that than to set up Mail to handle my GMail stuff. Plus, GMail is easily accessible at work or wherever through the web interface.

Yeah, but it's quite manageable.

I can't speak for the rest of the forum, but I regret leaving 8.3 - noticed a *significant battery drain on both my 5s and wife's 5. After a ridiculous amount of research to keep our batteries from draining, it's only gotten slightly better. As a last ditch effort, I wiped and restored both phones with no better results. There are always tons of people who say their batteries drain worse after an iOS update, but I never had this problem until I went from 8.3 to 8.4 (and I've had almost every iPhone since the original iPhone through the 5s). We're currently updated to iOS 9.1 and still no change. I can have 100% charge, then put it to sleep and in 2 hours it's down to 80%. I've also turned off all push, background refresh, etc. Finally just bought a battery case for when I'm going to be away from an outlet for a while. I love Apple, but sometimes I really don't like them

So, that's my $0.02 - thus concludes my battery rant

Battery issues with iOS9 were due to a specific app sucking power - in my case, Breeze.

I ended up turning off background processes for everything except what I use, and my phone can now last me almost 2 days (iphone6S+).

I think iOS9 has a lot of good improvements over iOS8.

Well, it's a done deal, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. One upside to all this is that I had forgotten the passcode I had entered when I first bought the phone and after trying my usual combinations three or four times, I figured I'd better not try anymore and risk getting locked out. With this update, I was able to create a new passcode (and yes, I did enter it into my password app).

Yes, you will because you'll just have to then update to iOS 9.2. Why not go straight to 9.2?

What can I say, when I let the phone update, it installed 9.1.

BTW, my passcode issue is still an issue. It's the Restrictions passcode that I've already used three failed attempts. Honestly, I don't remember ever setting a passcode, as I'd have had no reason to. And apparently, it's not the same as the regular lock passcode.

Had that happen to me recently, I backed it up, erased and restored.

Couldnt remember the dang number. always use my finger, and hadnt done an update in months...

I totally believe you, but I had the opposite experience. In iOS 6/7/8 my battery lasted the full day. But in iOS 9 it can last 2-3 days.

First, I discovered the Low Power Mode (I am sure you tried that). Battery lasted 2 days. then at some point I did a wipe and restore and ended up with the same content (photos, music) but for some reason almost no Apps. I just installed the Apps I needed, new version from App store. Now the battery will last 2-3 days in normal power mode, I didn't try low power mode since I don't need it, my guess it would extend the battery for another day if I were to use it.

Back in the 10.5 days, I loved Apple Mail. Then Apple started "improving" it. I stopped loving it. I've been happy with Gmail for years now but, I do wish Google would stop adding crap to it. I have NO interest in Google+, Google Neighborhoods, etc, etc. Just give me RELIABLE mail.

9 was a great upgrade for my 5S, halved my power usage. Went from having to charge every day to having to charge every other day.

Wow, Space - I wish that was my experience!! And that was on a 5 or 5s? Low power mode doesn't seem to really affect my phone because I've turned just off just about everything low power mode does

On a related note, is there an easy way to get rid of the ungodly number of emojis (or whatever the hell they're called) that are part of this upgrade? I'll occasionally use smile, frown and wink. I can't foresee ever wanting to use anything else and would rather not even see them.
