i make media.
i have the non-trashcan mac pro (3,1). it did the job for more than a few years but it is time to move on.
i have a 27" imac i7 2.93 (2010). this was the my media business' go-to, day to day machine.
i don't want to invest in the mac pro (3,1).
i don't want to purchase a top of the line 27" imac i7 retina (not yet!).
i have a potentially large project coming in the first quarter of 2016 and the budget will allow for a new edit station.
so i live with the 27" imac i7 2.93 (2010). all good.
i am transitioning to fcp x.
i want to skinny the 27" imac i7 2.93 (2010) so there is little else on the 1tb stock hard drive except applications, my itunes library and other film related stuff.
so after backing up everything, the mac pro has been the work machine for the past month, great.
and today, i want to download fcp x to the imac.
on the imac, (remember it was the biz machine), i trashed the two folders that held all my personnel files and business files.
i re-booted and took a look at about this mac->storage-> and saw there was still a sizable amount of "other".
what the heck is "other"?
and how can i delete this "other" so i can get the imac's hard drive as skinny as possible?
thanks in advance.
be well.
rob
ps-please don't post how if i did this and that to the mac pro (3,1), it would still be a rocking video editor and i made a mistake relying on the imac as my edit tool. i appreciate your insights but that is not the direction i wanted to take.
