Yahoo, schmahoo... OK in Safari, garbled in Firefox. Help!

Friend/client uses Yahoo mail, home page, as catch-all. Recently, some of his content seems to be disappearing in FF, but he says it's OK in Safari. I thought in email it might just be stuff that he clicks on that triggers window tiling, but he says it happens on his Yahoo home page. 2013 i7 iMac running Yos. Have not been able to get over there in person to check it out, but since Safari is OK (and I'm not a Yahoo person), are there any Yahoo settings/prefs that should be checked? Any other ideas? I probably won't get over there for at least another couple of weeks, and will upgrade him to El Cap then. Any chance issues are related to Firefox?
Thanks.

Ad-blocker or script-blocker.

When it comes to spying on you, Yahoo is almost as bad as Facebook.

Doc, I had put some sort of ad blocker on awhile back... don't recall which at the moment. but he (and his wife) have a habit of clicking on links that they shouldn't, so some sort of malware may be at work, though he does have some sort of internet security software in use. Any ideas why Safari is OK and FF isn't? Which ad blocker is recommended?
Thanks.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

Every ad blocker I have tried has some undesired effects. Contextual menus that should appear when cursor hovers over a spot is an example - uBlock and AdBlock both treat these as ads and prevent them from appearing.

What I would do is create a Test User account and run FF and Safari on those pages from that account, with no extensions. Then add the extensions from the main account and try again. I think you will find that their FF preferences have been messed with in the main account.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

I have seen lots of websites that don't work in FF with Flash off and adblock/privacy-block cranked up, but Yahoo isn't one of them... for the moment. I would say it is a good thing until you can verify it is causing major usability problems.

You just defined 3 things that could be messing with web-content:

1. Ad-blockers: If the Yahoo page is loading content that is identified with an ad-server (which is the case with most ad-blockers since Yahoo puts trackers and ads in everything they serve) then it could be blocked.

2. Malware: Yes. People in the habit of following click-bait will probably end up with some sort of malware/adware and it WILL mess with web-content. Run the MalwareBytes scanner.

3. Cr@pware "Internet Security" or antivirus software that includes a web-filter component. Will typically do nothing more than filter out legit web content and swap out portions of web pages with ads to pay for useless upgrades to their useless software. Could easily be responsible for garbled web pages.

Doc-
1 - Any suggestions for a "good" ad blocker? IIRC, I installed ad blockers on both Safari and FF.

2 - Will pass along MalwareBytes tomorrow. Thanks. You're right, click-bait-clickers sure are needless risk takers; but try as I may, they can't seem to resist-- it's like they're poster children for people that can't help but respond to click bait, because they truly can't figure out it's click bait.

3 - Don't recall which "internet security" software was used, but IIRC, it was a pseudo legacy from his prior iMac that was updated/reinstalled after I helped set up his new iMac. Old iMac ran SL, and I set new iMac up w/ Mavs and put SL Server on VMWare Fusion as a repository for decades of POP email archives. User had security software reinstalled remotely by vendor, and also did Yos upgrade when I wasn't around. I did a Yos combo updater afterwards when he had "issues", but this Yahoo behavior is quite recent in FF, so I'm thinking something had to have changed; whether some new click bait was clicked, or a setting/ pref got tweaked, or a bug/issue incompatibility w/ something that was updated.

FWIW, husband uses FF and has his account settings saved for a bunch of corporate websites, and add'l native language usage, and wife uses Safari for her stuff; some at same corp websites and different native language. They do use each others' browsers for just general surfing, but use their own to log onto sites that require logins. A lot of family related emails come mostly to husband, so he either forwards stuff to her, or puts a copy in separate "wife" folder in email reader.

I'm gonna try to assist him by phone tomorrow afternoon, so trying to round up possible solutions to tide him over for at least a couple more weeks until I can make a house call. Thanks.
