Don't they all advertise "up to" speeds? Other than the FCC definition of broadband, there's no minimum bar.

I was wondering the same thing.

Sonic, if I recall correctly, advertised 20 down, .786 or so up, back when I subscribed.

Now I see "up to…" and get nowhere near close to that, most of the time.

I'm in California and it said the nearest servers are in NYC, so this is testing a fairly long distance connection. Here's the link the the results that it gave me.

Then it seemed to know about very local CA based servers and got these results

I'm on Comcast and these are the results of Comcast's speed test.

Ah, I see how to change the location (airport codes).

http://internethealthtest.org/?metro=oak (Oakland)
[internethealthtest.org] (San Jose)

None for a bunch of smaller airports. Edit: strike that, it doesn't seem to work reliably for anything but nearby.

I would imagine that if they can't find any subscribers at any point in time that are hitting the "Up to" speed, they are going to go after them...if 99.9% of the time you are getting 20mpbs it isn't fair to say up to 50mbps.

Average 44.51, but for whatever reason the first test showed a speed of 0.41. Excluding that result gives an average of 53.33.

I live in Yakima, WA, Charter is my ISP with claimed speed up to 60Mbps.
