Lobsters for Christmas? The Euros slow buying. Are there deals here?

If the Euros have slowed their lobster purchases for Christmas, has that resulted in a lower price here in the U.S.A.? There may be an opportunity for an added menu item for Xmas fêtes. Does anyone have any relevant pricing info? I'm sure it would be appreciated here on 'Tips and Deals'.

US lobster exports to Europe are down for Christmas season
By PATRICK WHITTLE Associated Press [hosted.ap.org]
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- American exporters say lobster shipments to European countries including France, Italy and Spain are down because of the strong dollar and a less-than-festive economy overseas.

Lobsters are a Christmas tradition in several European countries, where supermarkets rely on the crustaceans to draw shoppers around the holidays. But American shippers say they are in the midst of a weak year.

The trend reflects a broader slide in the amount of lobster the U.S. is sending to Europe. Live and frozen shipments to Spain valued at more than $63 million in 2007 fell to less than $40 million last year. The value of live lobster shipments to Europe through October has also dipped this year compared to last.

Boston-area shipper Mike Tourkistas says the price of lobsters to European consumers is rising.

Funny you should mention...
I just saw lobster at the grocery store... Decent sized ones proced at $9.98 EACH, rather than per lb.

I thought lobster is what you feed to your slaves and poor people.

Grilled lobster tails on a charcoal grill are an amazingly simple and delicious treat.

Prices have been pretty steady at the Cape Cod fish markets - maybe down a dollar or two a pound - even in the offseason. I've seen $9-$11/lb depending upon weight. The lobsters are all very local and direct-from-the-boat so maybe they are protecting prices? Not sure...
