Reminder! SpaceX launch at 5:30 PM PST.... Landing a few minutes later (fingers crossed!)

I'm on the road with my 3G iPad 2, so may not be able to watch the live stream myself, but gonna try!

Best of luck to SpaceX and Orbcomm on the launch, and to SpaceX for the landing!

Good separation, boostback n progress.. 2nd stage on the way to orbit!
We'll know on the landing in four minutes or so!

Had to stop watching the stream (eating up my 3G data...)

But second stage is sucessfully in orbit!
Pad crew is waiting for the 1st stage to cool down to move in and secure it.

That stage is going to be taken apart and examined like no rocket in history - because we've never gotten one back intact from an orbital mission!

Any happier, and someone is getting pregnant in mission control!
Whole lot of celebrating going on!

As they should be. Nailing the first stage landing has become (though unfairly) a confidence call for SpaceX.

This is very cool to watch!

What are the little white specs that float by during the deployments?

Awesome! Huge Kudos to Elon and the entire team for doing what was considered impossible just 10 years ago.

So when the tear it down to inspect it, what will they be looking for?

Obviously, LOTS of details, but what in general will they be wanting to know?

One guess is for signs of wear, cracks, anything that might affect the reusability (anything they identify will be redesigned to be more durable no doubt).

Carnos nailed it...

This is the forst time EVER in the history of liquid fuel boosters one has been recovered in any fashion other than seriously banged up (and usually either exploded a bit, or dunked in salt water).
They get to measure wear on parts that for the last 70 years of rocketry were one-shot items, never to be used again.
SpaceX has done their best to "upgrade" and test everything for many-times reusability... But now they actually have a COMPLETE, unblow'ed up, un-dipped in saltwater, un-mangled, 1st stage to check out.

After they do...
Next step, land another one.
Then, with two data points, they'll figure out how much refurbishing they need to re-fly one.
Then they'll either re-furb #2, or land a third.. And then re-fly one, either on an orbital mission, or with a dummy 2nd stage (or most likely, offer the ride on the reused stage at a steep discount to their customers... With an insurance policy...).

Gonna be a REAL interesting next few years in the space biz...
