First time absentee voter here. Mailed it last week. But going to the poles is still a good experience.

Cummington has paper ballots you mark with an old fashioned pencil. And a big wooden box, one slides the folded ballot into a slot and the attendant turns a crank to pull it in.

I volunteered to count the votes once, there were a couple tables and four of us at each, in teams of two. One would open the ballot, announce the vote and the other would double check to make sure it was right.

It may seem old fashioned but it works.
Once, in this town, when my old girlfriend was going to join a town committee, she couldn't get togethere with the town clerk to be sworn in for the first meeting. So when she called the clerk, the clerk said-over the phone, now- okay just raise your right hand and repeat after me…

If you don't know the candidates, and the issues, don't bother voting.

. . . or if you're a Democrat, but that's the same thing, right?
