About Sherlock, last night... (mild spoiler)

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the rapid fire dialogue and wit.

Not being one to dissect continuity, anachronisms, plots, etc., I do wonder about one thing:

At one point the phrase "Merry Christmas" was used. Given the country and company, I'd have thought that "Happy Christmas" would have been correct.

Was that just for the US and/or overseas audience?

This article says you are right. But I wonder why that was so important that they needed to change it (assuming they intentionally did so). Do they really think the American audience for Sherlock is so unsophisticated that they would be confused by the expression?

Actually, I think that article explains why it was used.

Thanks for the link.

Well, I guess if I read my own linked articles, I would be smarter! "Happy Christmas began to take root in the late 1800’s in Great Britain and Ireland."

I didn't notice the expression when I watched it, but I presume what you noticed took place in the...vintage portions of the show.

The repartee was fun, the lipstick overdone.

I thought beating the stiff was entirely to long. Later I saw the coroner and got a feel for what was at least a foreshadow of a side plot.

Having reached the end I shall watch it again (and again....) but the beating will still be an issue. Sloppy. Couldn't think of anything for Sherlock to do in the background of the Watson roomie intro.

Given that everything we saw was part of Sherlock's dreaming, we might surmise that the boy ain't quite right, to paraphrase a poster here.

So I don't think the beating or the lipstick were sloppy, though I could easily do without both.

As will I, and probably just gloss over the beating the stiff part.
