I have a Quicken Data file that goes back to 1993.

I currently have been having a problem with correct balance in the desktop application Quicken 2015 for the last 8 months.

I have called over 10-15 times for tech support, and each time it is the same thing repeated over and over. I have chatted and been disconnected. I have called 2x today, and the phone line got disconnected.

People must keep their spending on the computer so that at the end of the year, they can easily print out a report to show what they can deduct, etc.

What are people using that is good. I see that iBank is now called Banktivity.

I have been struggling with this app. It has been updated about 5 times in the last 3 months, but not to address the issue that so many people on the Quicken Forums are complaining.

What a joke this company has become. And the alternative??

I've been using MoneyDance for since 2011. It's rather Q like and seems pretty good. There's a bit of a learning curve. Support was good when I needed it.
I manage 8 or so accounts with it.

I've stayed with Quicken 2007 and it still runs just fine for me. I've got both the old PowerPC version that runs under Rosetta on Snow Leopard and Quicken Lion 2007 that runs natively (Intel) on SL and beyond. Neither seem to have any problems for me now, but I'm not a power user. My data does go back to the stone age though.

I did find one problem early on with the Quicken Lion version and I reported it to Intuit. They claimed they'd never heard of it before, but it was being talked about all over the forums. They wanted my database so they could "investigate" the issue. Instead I build a new database with just a few entries that demonstrated the problem and sent that to them. The next update of Quicken Lion had a fix for the problem.

Personally I'm not upgrading to another version of Quicken until it at least contains the same feature set as their Windows version, and even then I'll only do so if the 2007 version craps out on me. I have very little faith in Intuit working to maintain their Mac customer base.

Moneydance. The interface is a little clunky but overall it's an acceptable replacement for Quicken.

I know it's like preaching to the choir here, but after starting this thread, I went back to one of the threads on the Quicken Forums to see when it was I was posting about this same problem. At least 3 months ago.

Well I guess I complained too much, and had a fellow user say the same thing.... so a SUPERUSER, closed the thread, because we were just complaining.

I left quicken out of principle. Went to Moneydance and haven't looked back. A couple of things I liked better in quicken, but it more than does what I need.

Still using Quicken 2007 for Lion. Also have over 15 years of data in it.

Will cry & look at other options when transaction downloads cease to work.

I'm still using Quicken. Only thing I really hate about them is the constant ads every time you open it.

I've been using spreadsheets since back in the '80s. Appleworks for a while, then because I started using Excel at work, I moved to that and have been using it since. It handles my checkbook (even writes checks), my credit cards, and my portfolios. Entries are by hand, and I have to log into my various bank and card accounts to monitor what has cleared but that takes only a few minutes at a time. Each transaction is associated with a budget category and monitoring those is just an automatic calculation on a separate worksheet.

If I were an active stock trader, I might want something that handles trading better than my set up, but trades are pretty rare for me so that is not a problem.

Used Quicken 98 from 1998 until Early 2004.
Been using Quicken 2002 ever since.

Quicken 2002 will run on Mac OS 9 through 10.6.8.

Planning to switch to Quicken 2007 Lion at some point if I decide to upgrade from 10.6.8 to something newer.

Quicken 2007 Lion here on El Capitan.

Still getting credit card downloads - expect that to stop soon.

Tried Q2015 - didn't like it.

Tried Moneydance 2011 and it is clunky. Went back to Q2007.

About the same for me. I started using Quicken since about version 1.3 or something. About 1987? I've tried them ALL. I own Moneydance, LiquidLedger, tried iBank, MoneyWell, but Quicken 2007 (the one you could buy a few years ago for about $15?) still works best for me. I even left TurboTax because of Intuit - that company...don't get me started.

So after complaining on Quicken Forums and that thread being closed. I now go to Quicken.com and can get on but when I hit Support I get:

But I never did solve my problem in 8 months.

If they are blocking people with problems, that would really be bad customer service.

Things I read is, people still using Quicken Mac 2007 for lion. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this 2007 Lion version. Would love to try an export my current data into it.

I read somewhere in the last two days there is a technique for doing it.

Just not sure if it would be worth my time, and how long downloads would still work from my bank (Direc Download), if I went to it. , From Quicken for Mac 2015

From what I read, there is a chance that you can get a copy of Quicken for Lion 2007 by contacting Quicken support by chat. (Technically I think it's called "Quicken for Mac 2007 OS X Lion Compatible".) The Wikipedia article on Quicken has a link to Quicken support, but it's out of date.

Wikipedia also says that Quicken for Lion is still supported, although primarily just with updates to make sure downloads continue to work. I guess that's an indication that the latest versions for Mac (2015, 2016) are still not adequate.

Apparently Quicken went to a new file format for Macs with Quicken 2005. Intuit's page on Quicken 2007 for Lion says that it cannot convert from Quicken 2004 for Mac or earlier, so you need the intermediate step of Quicken 2006 if upgrading from 2004 or earlier, since Quicken 2006 can do the conversion.

If anyone is still on Quicken 2004 or earlier and wants to upgrade, you can get a copy of Quicken 2006 that can convert the earlier file format here:

Note that Quicken 2006 is PowerPC native, so it will not run on OS X past 10.6. But if you are using Quicken 2004 or earlier, you aren't on anything later than OS 10.6 anyway. But you'll need your old Mac to do the conversion. The file converted by Quicken 2006 can then be opened in Quicken 2007 for Lion.

I don't know if the conversion via Quicken 2006 would be needed to go from Quicken 2004 to Moneydance or not. (But I may find out. We use Quicken 2004, and I bought a family license for Moneydance so my son could try it.)
