Hate Apple Software? Which replacements are best?

The one I hate the most is Photos. Which replacement should I use that syncs my Mac and iPhone?
Also, what do you use instead of iTunes? Or is there a plug in to better organize it?

(I didn't want to hijack the thread below)

If you can, see if you can get a copy of iPhoto. It still runs in El Capitan and Yosemite. I doubt it will be a permanent solution - I expect Apple to kill it sooner than later.

I just use something like Phone View to copy pictures and videos off my phone, and store them in the OS. I use the slideshow feature of Graphic Converter to look at a bunch of photos.

Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do if they kill iPhoto. That's how I've organized and tagged my pix for years now.

Me too. I replaced it with iPhoto.

Nothing. iTunes and I get along pretty well.

What are you having trouble with?

Apple software usually doesn't bug me much and I like some of it a lot like the simplicity of Image Capture, but then I don't use a lot of Apple SW which is probably a pretty bad criticism. iTunes is a means to an end for iPads and iPods but I don't organize my music in it and never have so no big deal.

But the killer crapfest for me is iOS 9's Podcasts app. When Podcasts debuted in iOS whatever, newly separated from the Music app, it's usability had taken a step back and was roundly criticized, but it had gotten steadily better through iOS 8.4 and then 9 dropped like a pile of podcast manure and it's UI is just horrible. The biggest problem is tapping behavior will frequently do one thing or another depending on small changes in where the tap lands, and there are no onscreen delineations on where the tap behavior changes. It's just "somewhere around here." Add in much smaller landing zones for taps and alternatively cramming new screens above and below the main screen, it's just a UI mess.

Anyone have a good, clean iOS podcast app alternative?

Overcast was recommended here and I have enjoyed it. I lasted about 3 weeks with ios9's version. Overcast does a lot free, but download over cell network (and other goodies) requires purchase. I've been ok with the free version so far.

I'm looking for a replacement for Apple Calendar that has notifications that actually repeat rather than disappearing into oblivion.

I use Downcast for my podcasts. Works fine.

My son uses Overcast and likes it a lot.

Buck,

I don't dislike Apple software per say but there are definitely apps I choose to avoid and/or use out of necessity.

1. Apple apps I use by choice:

Preview
Mail
TextEdit
Disk Utility
Messages
Quicktime Player
DVD Player
Image Capture
Time Machine
Calculator

2. Apple apps I use out of necessity

iTunes
Contacts
Facetime
App Store
Photos
Safari
Pages
Numbers
Airport Utility
Calendar

3. Apple apps I chose to avoid

Too many to list but Dashboard and Mission Control would be #1 and #2 if I tallied them all.

4. Apps I chose to use instead of Apple apps

1. MS Word (Instead of Pages)
2. MS Excel (Instead of Numbers)
3. LibreOffice (Instead of Pages to open Appleworks files)
4. VLC
5. Firefox (in conjunction with Safari, actually)
6. Tex-Edit Plus (In conjunction with TextEdit, actually)
7. Adobe Reader (In conjunction with Preview, actually)

Thanks hal and sekker, I'll try both of those!
