Tonight's official "Lost" thread

NO SPOILERS for the sake of the left coasters...

...

Wow! Is it my imagination, or did we finally get an answer to at least one major question? (At least, sort of... could still be scientific, or supernatural, or something else entirely... I hope it won't turn out to be some sort of supernatural garbage...)

Geez, Mr. Eko is a badass, isn't he? I like him. And an interesting counterpoint to Charlie. I also noticed that the issue of the drugs is still open... I felt really bad for him at the end.

I also like how they weaved in the Holy Mother statue, in simultaneous ways-- you knew that was coming, sooner or later.

I watched carefully and didn't post while it was on. I liked it. It was much better than previous episodes. I like the development of Echo. The other thing is still a mystery. We will have to wait to see what it is. At least it showed up again. Let's see if next week's episode builds on the momentum.

Good episode, almost makes up for how they have been teasing us for the last month or so.

What the heck is that black smoke thing?!!? And was it just me, or did I see flashes of peoples faces in the smoke when the camera went by it slowly?

I just can't imagine how this whole series will end, if it ever does come to a conclusion.

Yeah, mikebw, might want to edit...

But yes, I'll be interested to see how they ever possibly wind up this series. I hope it doesn't go either the X-Files route (contorted to the point of unbelievability) or worse, to end the series without any explanation(s) whatsoever.

Also, I am curious how the recent thing with the two actresses having DUI's (or DWI's, or whatever it was) will affect the plot... I'm guessing at least one of them will get killed off.

Edit: side point -- I just recently got back into the Blakes 7 series. For those of you who don't know it, it was a great BBC sci-fi on during the late 70's/early 80's (cheesy special effects, but some incredible writing)... and it's really interesting to see how many other shows it has influenced, directly or indirectly. There are some echos (no pun intended) between Blakes 7, Star Trek (especially Voyager, but also DS9), Lost, and a whole host of other shows...

I'm lost over this whole Lost thing. What kind of show is it anyway??

Do they address the number 42 as comprehensively as I have?

I hope this isn't a geek thread. I wouldn't want anyone to see me here.

No, but I figured since Peter started this thread, there must be a comic book version of this show.

This is exactly what will happen. There's too much money involved. As long as the ratings are there, they will keep writing episodes no matter how contorted they get.

> or worse, to end the
> series without any explanation(s) whatsoever.

This is also likely to happen and is the corrolary to the above. They'll write themselves into so many corners they won't be able to get out. Some of the actors will become too big for teevee (at least in their minds) and leave the show. Or they'll be arrested for DUI or whatever, and leave the show. Ratings will decline, and finally if there is a "finale" it will make no sense at all.

It's Gilligan's Island for the 21st century. It'll only stop when the money does.

Don K, I sure hope that doesn't happen. I do notice that the writers have been pretty careful NOT to write themselves into a corner; that is, it seems that-- for the most part-- they already have things planned out well in advance. The only major exception to that, I feel, was Shannon's death-- which seemed poorly/hurriedly written to me, and I am guessing had more to do with Maggie Grace wanting out (and their wanting her out) than it did with good writing. In contrast, Boone's death seemed much more "real" and well-thought-out to me. Anyway... it does seem they can kill off pretty much anyone, so the chance of the actors getting "uppity" is pretty low...

Newt, I saw your post, but that was just a "reminder" post, not a "discussion" post, I thought...

winking smiley

Anyway... back on subject... at least, sort of:

I just found out from Spoilerfix.com that one of my favorite actresses is going to be on an upcoming episode in one of the flashbacks... I've just dropped her an email to ask about it...

Can we see a pic of this so called "actress" - just to make sure you aren't talking about an escort service?

Also... does she know you are stalking her?

Who said those are my undies?

I think the show is gettin' back into a groove. It took some time but when they got back as one group. . .started gettin good.

I don't think they should kill the actress with DUI I mean people are dying left and right. They should do something different like maybe have one get rescued. (besides they don't know what will happen with them yet. ..they may use it as a cliffhanger?)

rgG, I do hope that they don't kill either of the characters off-- they both have lots of potential.

From "Ask Ausiello" (TV Guide):

Question: What effect, if any, will the Lost arrests have on Michelle Rodriguez's and Cynthia Watros' roles or futures on the show? — Chris

Ausiello: Little if any, I'm told. Apparently, if they get their driving privileges revoked, there's some kind of law that allows convicted DUIers to drive to and from work. So, if you happen to be in Hawaii and see someone who looks like Ana Lucia behind the wheel, pull the frak over and pray for your life.

Why don't we just make this and all future Lost threads WITH spoilers. So we can talk about it like adults?

Is anyone on the west coast actually reading these Lost threads if they haven't seen it yet? Personally, if i was on the west coast i wouldn't touch this thread with a 10 foot pole even without spoilers.

Put the word SPOILERS in all caps in the headline. And be done with it.

"Cali_Maccuser: Hi guys, thanks for not putting any spoilers. I'm really looking forward to seeing tonight's episode in three hours here in Cali. So this episode is about Eko? And the drugs in the plane? Are you saying that there is a connection? I thought it was about a haircut? Now i'm really excited!!"

3d, the problem with having spoilers is that you inevitably get someone who says:

"&!#&*@$ you @#$%&holes, why did you give away the spoilers!?!"

...despite the fact that the thread was marked "Spoilers within!"

(yes, I know, it makes no sense...)

but fine, we'll do that next time. Mark my words, someone will (and always does) complain...

At any rate, not being able to give away spoilers has the added bonus that we all get to discuss it in secret code winking smiley

oops, didn't see that about no spoilers, too late to edit... Although I don't think I gave anything important away.

Well, at the point even the west coast should have seen the whole episode, so bring on the real talk.

Well I'm on the left coast and I officially give you permission to post spoilers about the show with or without a warning in the title.

Of course, I don't watch this show, or virtually any other nightime network TV since I work swing shift. ;)

and the haircut. . .you forgot the shirtless haircut. . .

and Walt. . .and his son. . .
