2 Weeks with Motorola Q, thoughts so far

In case anyone is interested, here are a few highlights about the Moto Q I got on Newton's tip.

Pros: Fantastic voice quality, people ask me if I am actually on my mobile phone or land line
Very light, easy to hold, slimmer than my treo 650
No crashes (so far)
Explorer is slightly less clunky than the treo's web browser

Cons: Battery life is awful, miss one overnight charging session and you are out of juice.
Windows OS is just plain stupid, no copy and paste for info I pull from web sites such as names and numbers
No memo application included, have to buy one.
Battery door panel is super thin, flimsiest plastic I have ever felt on a phone, super cheap tacky feel.
No touch screen

Conclusion: For the promo price I got it for $99-$99, it will have to do. I am iffy on if I would have spent $99 on it after rebate. I wasn't in the mood to buy another Treo for $299. I would rather get a lens winking smiley

As soon as I get one of those, Apple will release it's do-it-all phone.

Do people get excited about upgrading phones like they do Macs? (Buying the next hot item, that is)

We just have simple, stick phones. Nokia 3360 and 6010.

I have been waiting on an Apple solution for years.

One visit to [www.howardforums.com] will show you they're as geeked out as we are.

The Cingular 8525 comes out this week with broadband speed (much faster than Verizon's) on Cingular.

Thanks for reminding me how crappy Windows Mobile is. I may try to resist until Jan and see if Apple does something in this space.

C8525 will be faster then the Q w/vzw? Do you mean faster broadband speed (400k) then VZW?
Or faster screen redraw or faster proc?

In case some of you missed it, I lost my treo 650 on my recent trip to China. I had to get a phone/organizer ASAP. I am pretty sure Apple will now come out with the phone I really want. I took one for the team winking smiley

I looked at the "Q" at Costco this morning and felt it looked pretty cheaply made.

I have been holding out for a deal on the Treo 650 since I have a number of Palm based apps already from my Clie´ PDA.

I worked with National Wildlife Federation in developing a birding recognition program which is Palm based and I'd hate to lose the use of it. It's no longer being developed and the alternative is beaucoup expensive.

I guess I'm stuck with some form of Palm based phone but all the deals have required the $40/month broadband service which I really don't need sad smiley

As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
