Hiring An Event Planner???

Hope someone here can help guide me.

I'm starting to put together an event in March and have been thinking about hiring an event planner to coordinate the many different aspects of the event and bring a new set of eyes and ideas to the table. However, I've never hired or worked with an event planner before so I don't know what I should expect to pay.

Can someone give me a better idea on how Event Planners are compensated and their areas of responsibility?

Thanks!

maybe try a "planner-in-training"... some friends of ours found a gal that did their gig for free, w/ the compensation being a personalized introduction of the planner to each of the guests by the host couple, w/ the planner giving her card, and a card from the event (that also had her info on it) to each guest... party was noticably "smoother" than their "unplanned" gigs, and less stressful on the hosts. good luck.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

I'm not adverse to compensating the Event Planner. I've got a bit of a budget to work with. What I'm interested is to know what to expect when working with a planner and their usual method/fee of compensation.

Thanks again!
