I know....some of you work for yourselves, are retired, personally wealthy, etc. and do NOT worry with mundane mechanations of sick, vacation time.

So, what are your balances?

Mine are

Personal Leave 16
Sick 310
Vac 216

Do the numbers represent days or hours? My leave balances were always listed in terms of hours.

In days:

3.5 vacation (start with 18 that don't carry over)

27 sick (five added per year and they carry over)

20 "hospital days" (used in lieu of sick days when hospitalized; 20 maximum)

Exciting, eh?

Before I became self employed I worked for a hospital that used a system
of "banking" sick day that were not used. There were pay out points on based
on the number of accumulated days - but basically if you went 3 years
without a sick day you got a check for 1 week of pay, 5 years 2 weeks etc...

The downside was that hourly or salaried that had set schedules people
would come to work sick as not to give up their end of the year check.
Salaried folks that worked a lot of extra or had an advantage because
they had more flexibility due to comp time.

I was / am a pretty healthy person and since I was salaried and worked
a lot of extra hours (on call 24/7 - averaged a couple ER calls a month and
worked exra when projects were due) I always had comp time coming. By the
time I left there after 15 years I was getting a check for 6 weeks pay at the
end of the year. I was also getting 4 weeks vacation which I rarely used
again because of comp time I had coming so I would get paid out for
unused vacation time too.

Man! I'm going to have to take a sick day after looking at those totals!

I have about 21 hours left. We don't have sick or vacation...we just have Paid Time Off. I have 15 days total. Fortunately i started at the co. BEFORE they changed it to 10 days.

I have 81 hours of vacation banked. We can carry over 120 hrs max to the next year.

We don't get accrued sick time. You just call in sick and charge it to an overhead number. If you are out too long, then you go on short-term disability.

We don't have maternity leave, either. My wife took short-term disability for our kid.

Sick time: 170
Holiday: 24
Vacation: 64

I just got a "buy back" of 80 vacation hours that I couldn't carry over.
I need to take more vacations!

One day left this year. 4 weeks off next year - vacation or personal, doesn't matter. "Unlimited" sick days. (I haven't had a sick day in years.) Took a lot of time off when my dad passed away earlier this year, which they didn't count.

92 vacation hours booked. They don't tell us how many sick days we actually get, but your boss gets a nastygram from HR if you overrun the "secret" number (it's about 40 hours per year).

My last company used the "time bank" method, where you were supposed to use vacation hours for sick time. As a poster above observed, the result was that everybody came to work sick, passing on whatever bug they had to the rest of the office.

Catbert is not a fictional character.

Sick: 830
Vacation 182

We can bank a maximum of 1760 hours toward vacation. Almost all of my co-workers are at the max and freely give their vacation back to the company year after year. Je ne comprends pas.

Sick - 240 hrs, automatically get 10 days a year (30 days is the max allowed to carry, but if you're at the max work will carry you another 30 days until disability kicks in)

Vacation - 245 hrs (after 10 years service we earn 4.65 hrs every 2 weeks, works out to 3 weeks/year) We are actually suppose to be limited to 4 weeks, but they have never enforced that policy.

Sick leave: 1472 hrs
Annual Leave (vacation time): 332 hrs, 132 of which is "use or lose" - gotta use it by Jan 6th, 2007. Looks like I'll be taking some time off in December.

A few months ago, I did some calculations and determined that starting next Spring sometime, I'm going to have to be "sick" every two weeks, to make sure all that sick leave gets burned down by the time I retire in 16 years or so. I just hope that won't look too suspicious.

437 hrs of 'comprehensive leave', 900+ hrs of disability leave

I used to have over 1000 hours of disability leave but I had to use up 10 weeks this year- recovering from a broken shoulder.

Our cap is 480 hours of comprehensive leave but we can cash out 120 hours a year if needed. After next year they won't be docking our hours after 480 but will cash out the extra hours automatically in January.

We can bank a maximum of 1760 hours toward vacation.

I don't know where my brain was typing that--the maximum bank before use or lose is 352 hours
