Is there a trick to defeating this voice to text problem?

I like how you can add punctuation by saying 'comma' or 'period', but now that I'm talking about hockey and want to dictate the word 'period', but I get the punctuation instead.

I want to say, "they need to be better in the second period", but the iPhone transcribes, "they need to be better in the second."

Is there a trick for doing this on the on the fly? Some prefix that would tell siri to let 'period' remain 'period' for just that one session?

I have read that you can use "full stop" instead of period for the punctuation mark, but you might have to switch to the "English" keyboard option.

I just say period twice.

that gives me, "they need to be better in the second. Period"

which is an improvement (and also true)
