Also, the Next Generation bluray set is on sale for $110 at Best Buy (nearly half off...this set just became available and won't stay at such a low price for long...the individual seasons are $30-$40+ alone).

Only rumors, nothing substantial. I would throw serious money down for 1080p Deep Space 9 goodness.

How do they make old ass shows BluRay quality? Sorry for being an idiot, but I don't think I have actually ever SEEN a physical bluray disc.... I am a strictly interwebs kind of guy...

Many older shows were filmed, if they have the original film prints they possibly can do a good digital transfer. It will be a non-widescreen picture because the original was not filmed for that format, but a higher than standard-def image can be scanned from film.

Other older shows that were recorded direct to videotape will not have that option. They may be able to get a better than original broadcast quality picture off the videotapes, but not to the level of a high-def BluRay.
