iPhone 6 in pool, lost opportunity to retrieve data

So I had my wife's iPhone 6 split open and drying with a fan for 2 days.

I took it to a repair shop and they looked at it. Corrosion not to bad but said they would need to us the ultrasonic cleaner on the logic board. We decided to hold off for the time being.

He did try a different battery and screen but it did not work.

I took it with me and decided I should try hooking it to my computer. My macbook recognized it but had not been trusted so It said to use the lock code. Well screen wasn't working so thats a no go.

Tried 4 different recovery apps and all need lock code entered.

Decided to drive the 1 hour trip home to hook to wife's macbook since it is trusted. Phone felt very warm on the way home. Plug it in and nothing. Now neither computer will recognize it.

Pretty sure I lost the window of opportunity.

Yeah it sucks, definitely learned the hard way about iCloud backup for photos. I was under the mistake impression that iCloud backup would chew through data. Should have looked into it more.

Sorry to hear about this. Aside from iCloud backup, one can also do a backup to computer. I do it in evening when i am tm'ing my computer. It is my preferred way mostly because i have a 64 gb phone and i don't care for icloud. In addition, my contacts, which are critical to me also get backed using a Verizon app. My 2 cents

I'd also consider a secondary service like Flickr or Google Photos for redundancy.

The apps for broader cloud storage services like Dropbox will also capture photos from the Camera Roll.
