I just received $11 in credits from Apple to use at Amazon for eBooks as a result of their anti-trust settlement. SCORE!

I just got notice of $23. And it doesn't have to be used just for eBooks. It shows up in your account as a credit that can be put towards any purchase. Sweet.

$1.57. Obviously only buying bargain books has caught up with me. As opposed to my cousin who got over $100!

Sooo....Apple takes on the de-facto monopolist (or monopsonist) in the eBook market, the monopolist complains to the DOJ, and the DOJ takes Apple to court. Having been found guilty, Apple must now pay a settlement in the form of store credit to fill the eBook monopolist's coffers.

This is one legal case-study for the history books, that's for sure...

$175.36 credit on Amazon account.

Supposedly funded by Apple according to Amazon email. Amazon's email sure makes it sound like Amazon did no wrong.

Kinda glad none of these books are taking up space in the garage.

Apple could have lodged a complaint with the DOJ, instead they conspired with the heads of the big publishing houses to raise eBook prices. That's the crux of the argument and why Apple was rightfully destroyed in court over the issue. I'm not sure I own a single Kindle eBook, but I am bothered by the fact my non Amazon eBooks likewise saw the same price increases on account of the illegal collusion between Apple and the publishers.

P.s. Being good at what you do and thus deriving a monopoly is not actually illegal, hence why the DOJ investigated yet left Amazon alone over the eBook market. I will repeat, a monopoly is not inherently illegal.

There were other credits too from other books stores too. Pretty sure those already went out, but can't be sure it was all inclusive. Obviously the Kindle credits are just going through.
