I think the answer to a lot of them is "None" or "No Answer", but then it will reject that saying that you can't have the same answer to different questions.

The Costco / Citi Visa site annoyed me when it required at least 4 characters for an answer, and some of the questions were asking for a first or middle name, and rejected valid 3 letter names.

Biggest pet peeve.

I hate them, too. Really, really hate them.

Those look extra stupid. The only one I can easily answer is Security Question 2, #1: "What is your biggest pet peeve?" Answer: These security questions.

The problem I have with a lot of security questions is they are either too wishy washy ("If you could witness any event" or "If you won a million dollars") and the answer can change between now and next year when you actually have to answer the question, or they involve childhood stuff that I honestly don't remember--or care to.

I did. Notes in 1Password.

The funny thing is I found the previous security questions which I set up a year or two ago. I never needed them. But at that time they did have some choices that made sense:

Where did your parents meet?
What was your childhood phone number?
Where were you New Years 2000?

Now these are easy to remember.

My bank generates security questions based on your life history such as; Which of the following streets have you ever lived on? Then you have 5 choices including none of the above. Another asks what type of dwelling is on your address? etc. The only one I had to think hard about was old phone numbers I didn't have very long.

They get those address type questions by accessing your credit report. Fine if the information in the report is accurate, but not so good when not. As an example, due to misreporting on a Sears card that my ex-wife held during a period while we were separated, one of these questions wanted me to verify on an address that I never lived at. The credit bureau would not remove that address even when I documented that I had never lived at that address.

HATE these too. Even if I could remember how I answered, I don't like giving out this info. I give nonsense answers and save them in 1Password.

So favorite teacher might be "orange ruffles" and first pet might be "dazed watermelon." If the info stays on the screen after typing it in, I'll just take a screenshot and dump it into 1Password.

Ah, but you'll get back "sorry, your answers must be 6 characters long and cannot be the same as the question".

I really miss my banks OLD webbsite, where you make up your own security questions. Trust me, no one but me is going to be able to answer "what's the basic brass for .43 Werndl?" Or "what kind of tree was in K.J.'s yard?".

The pre selected questions are universally useless to me...

Embarassing myself on the Internet since 1978.

United Airlines is on my bad side for many reasons, including new security questions that are multiple choice. So it's one thing to ask me my favorite artist—but quite another to only offer eight possible and equally useless answers to that question.
