One of my favorite Star Trek TNG episodes: Tapestry
Posted by: pRICE cUBE

Spoilers ahead:

This is one of my favorite TNG episodes. It is a Q special.

The big question is: If you could go back and live your life again with what you know now, would you do it?

[en.wikipedia.org])

"Tapestry" is the 15th episode of the sixth season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, the 141st overall. It was originally released on February 15, 1993, in broadcast syndication. Set in the 24th century, the series follows the adventures of the crew of the Federation starship Enterprise. Ronald D. Moore was credited with writing the episode, but the basis of the story was a collaborative effort from the writing crew. "Tapestry" was directed by Les Landau, with the title coming from executive producer Michael Piller.

At the end of "Qpid", another good Q episode (where they do Robin Hood), Q says that he's paid off his debt to Picard. I'd always thought "Tapestry" would have been a better payoff.

I personally think the episode "Inner Light" was the best one. Patrick Stewart's character just got better and better. And his acting was amazing.

That is a long and in-depth Wikipedia page for one 45 minute episode.

I recall enjoying many/most of the episodes featuring Q.

Don't like any Q episodes, any of the Worf/Klingon/and his family nonsense episodes - particularly any featuring the little Klingon squirt, or any of the episodes that have Troi's horny, old mother.

The best episodes are the ones like "Inner Light" where there is some story to be told through the characters. "Darmok" comes to mind as well.

"Darmok" was fantastic -- it took the old episode, "Arena" (itself an adaptation of a great short s/f story), and turned it on its ear. It's one of my kids' favorite episodes as well.

I find a lot of TNG hit or miss. I still love it, though, warts and all, and am glad to have it on Netflix for regular viewing. My oldest (now 18) has watched (and re-watched) the series over the years. However, his favorite remains DS9. Somewhat surprisingly, our favorite episodes there have turned out to be the Ferengi episodes. I still will loudly announce, "BRUNT - FCA!" when I walk into a room he's in.

And this is still a favorite moment, haters be damned, from DS9: [youtu.be]

Ditto. Great moment of levity in an otherwise very serious episode.

One of my favorites is "The Inner Light" Season 5 Episode 25

In the story, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is struck with an energy beam from an alien probe. While minutes pass for the rest of the crew, Picard experiences 40 years as Kamin, a humanoid scientist whose planet is threatened by the nova of its sun. Picard learns that the purpose of the probe was to keep alive the memory of Kamin's race long after the death of their civilization. The probe also contains Kamin's flute; Picard, having mastered it as Kamin, finds he retains the skill to play it. He keeps it as a memento for the remainder of the series.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that could have made this episode any better was more lens flare......and maybe a guest appearance by Jar Jar Binks...

I always hated the "holodeck" episodes. It was like they just had to put something out as filler so let's make a Klingon Western. They could and DID do better than that...

Though I did really like the Moriarty ones...

I need to use this at my work, cuz all day long I'm told there are five. When I finally put in my 2 weeks, I'll yell this out as I walk out the door knowing that 99% of the people there will have no clue.

And a big agree smiley with "Inner Light". Very touching.

I liked Picard and his character. But what I don't get is this: Picard was of French descent. So why did they cast a classically trained British actor? Or, why didn't they make his character descended from, say, a famous British sea captain like Nelson?

That's so not funny but I laughed anyway.

Watching all the Trek before JJ reaffirms my belief that the New JJ Trek is nothing but car chases in space. A lot of action, not a lot of soul.

A race that speaks only in metaphor? Right. How do you get anything done?

Last line (by alien captain): <somebody> his sails unfurled.
Unspoken last line (by alien helmsman): Aye. Course, heading, and speed?
