How to find out when video was taken?

I have a video on my computer of my kids from long ago being very cute. It's one of my favorite videos and the only one I keep on my phone.

I'm trying to figure out the exact date it was filmed, but I can't find a way of finding this information.

It was filmed long ago, probably using a digital camera (definitely not using a phone).

In my iTunes, the only thing it says for the "Get Info" is that I had added it to my iTunes library in 2011, but I know it's from at least several years before that (b/c it was filmed in our old house).

Will I have any luck in ever getting the "metadata" off the video?

right click in iTunes, "show in finder". does the "get info" on the actual file in the finder tell you anything?

I've used Jeffrey's Image Metadata Viewer a few times to date photos and it supports a bunch of formats.

Works with these file types: 3FR, 3G2, 3GP, 3GP2, 3GPP, AA, AAX, ACFM, ACR, AFM, AI, AIF, AIFC, AIFF, AIT, AMFM, APE, ARW, ASF, AVI, AZW, AZW3, BMP, BTF, CHM, CIFF, COS, CR2, CRW, CS1, DC3, DCM, DCP, DCR, DFONT, DIB, DIC, DICM, DIVX, DJV, DJVU, DLL, DNG, DOC, DOCM, DOCX, DOT, DOTM, DOTX, DPX, DR4, DS2, DSS, DV, DVB, DYLIB, EIP, EPS, EPS2, EPS3, EPSF, EPUB, ERF, EXE, EXIF, EXR, EXV, F4A, F4B, F4P, F4V, FFF, FLA, FLAC, FLIR, FLV, FPF, FPX, GIF, GZ, GZIP, HDP, HDR, HTM, HTML, ICAL, ICC, ICM, ICS, IDML, IIQ, IND, INDD, INDT, INX, ITC, J2C, J2K, JNG, JP2, JPC, JPE, JPEG, JPF, JPG, JPM, JPX, JXR, K25, KDC, KEY, KTH, LA, LFP, LFR, LNK, M2T, M2TS, M2V, M4A, M4B, M4P, M4V, MEF, MIE, MIF, MIFF, MKA, MKS, MKV, MNG, MOBI, MODD, MOI, MOS, MOV, MP3, MP4, MPC, MPEG, MPG, MPO, MQV, MRW, MTS, MXF, NEF, NEWER, NMBTEMPLATE, NRW, NUMBERS, ODB, ODC, ODF, ODG, ODI, ODP, ODS, ODT, OFR, OGG, OGV, ORF, OTF, PAC, PAGES, PBM, PCD, PCT, PDB, PDF, PEF, PFA, PFB, PFM, PGF, PGM, PICT, PLIST, PMP, PNG, POT, POTM, POTX, PPM, PPS, PPSM, PPSX, PPT, PPTM, PPTX, PRC, PS, PS2, PS3, PSB, PSD, PSP, PSPFRAME, PSPIMAGE, PSPSHAPE, PSPTUBE, QIF, QT, QTI, QTIF, RA, RAF, RAM, RAR, RAW, RIF, RIFF, RM, RMVB, RPM, RSRC, RTF, RV, RW2, RWL, RWZ, SEQ, SO, SR2, SRF, SRW, SVG, SWF, THM, THMX, TIF, TIFF, TORRENT, TS, TTC, TTF, TUB, VCARD, VCF, VOB, VRD, VSD, WAV, WDP, WEBM, WEBP, WMA, WMV, WV, X3F, XCF, XHTML, XLA, XLAM, XLS, XLSB, XLSM, XLSX, XLT, XLTM, XLTX, XMP, and ZIP. Might also be helpful to know how the file got on the computer. Was it edited, straight from the camera, etc?

The file date might be when it was edited, or when it was imported from the camera. Still interesting dates, but not the date it was shot.

What format is the movie file, what codec does it use? MPEG? DV?

It's an m4v file. That trick *may* have worked. Says created January 2010 which would have been when we were still in our old house.

40mb is not that large a file anymore and I don't know how old that page is either.
