Don't ever wear them except on my way out the door. Tonight may be an exception with temps dropping into the 40s but footwear won't be shoes - maybe double up on socks.

Birkenstock Sandals they're like a wearable message. My Plantar Fasciitis won't allow me to go barefoot anymore.

Anything goes at this house. I like to peal off my shoes and socks after a day at work and in to some slippers. Yard work days I try to leave the mud on the porch outside with the shoes. Snow comes inside the front door to the landing and then everything gets tossed in the tub. Once we are warm and dry the tub gets cleared.

Yeah pretty much anything goes, unless my footwear is muddy or otherwise very dirty I leave them on.

We try not to, but lately I've been to lazy to take them off, put them on, take them off, put them on....

the kids have been well trained though, the moment they come in the door, the shoes come off.

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".

Absolutely no shoes in the house. Slippers for cold days. Our Asian friends just know the rules. Most of our non Asians friends have a hard time with it.

I wear them in the house, but my wife does not. I don't like going barefoot, and my feet get too hot in slippers.

Honestly, I've never given it any thought.

Except in winter, I go barefoot until I leave the house. When I come home, I leave my shoes on until I undress.

Snow is a rare event here, so there's almost no chance of tracking it inside. Other than snow-related issues, why the "No Shoes In The House" rule?

And while I'm asking, what is the protocol in shoe-free households for people with noticeable foot odor?

Good questions. Hmm, we have not been experienced the foot odor. However, we have seen hesitation from our female guests regarding exposing their 'ugly' feet. So we suggest them to leave their socks on.

. . .Martha Stewart had socklets. . .(socks with traction on the bottom).

she buys them in bulk in various sizes and when guests arrive they can wear them. . .then they go in the laundry afterwards. ..

she had the "cheaper" type and the "more expensive" ones and the guests would steal the more expensive ones. . .

by the way. ..growing up. ..no shoes, unless you wanted to get b*tch-slapped to high heaven. . .

My family and guests in my home are welcome to wear anything they want on their feet inside my home. Carpets and floors can be replaced...visit with friends and family can't.

I actually regularly turn down invitations to a couple of my relatives' homes because they ask everyone to remove their shoes when the come in. Eff that noise. If your floors or carpeting are more important than my presence, then so be it. The carpets will win every time.

We never wore shoes around the house when I was growing up and most of the people in my family still don't. Nothing to do with carpeting (there was none) or tradition. We just like being barefoot.

I lived in an apartment for many years that had really bad old floors and got tired of extracting painful splinters. So I got in the habit of keeping my shoes on. After living in our house for some years now, I have begun to wander around barefoot in the mornings. It drives my husband nuts. But I haven't ever gotten back in the habit of removing my shoes upon returning home.

I am a barefoot and/or sandles guy but around the house it's UGG Scuffs for me!

I also cannot go barefooted, so wear Birks in the house.
But my guests can do as they please, as long as they wipe their feet coming in.

I usually shuck them for comfort reasons. I don't prohibit them. I'd rather be known as rhe "guy with scratched-up floors" than the "a$$ who makes you take your shoes off".

Depends. Never barefoot though--skin oils from a human foot will stain carpet and 90% of our floor covering is carpet.

We do it the Asian/Hawaiian way, no shoes, not ever.

I hear a bunch of voices on both sides, but only the "pry-them-from-my-cold-dead-feet-crowd" seems to have a sense of entitlement in the matter.
