buying a perl necklace

I'd like to give my wife a perl necklace for christmas but I know very little about perls. What kind of money would I be getting into for a decent one? What about fake perls, are they even worth looking at? When I go into the store what kind of things should I be looking for?

Thanks for the info,

Dave

Awesome.

Yes. Very well done. This was the first thing I envisioned, which is a darn sight better than the second... which involved something from a Ron Jeremy film.

Isn't this when someone is supposed to post the lyrics to ZZ Top's song Pearl Necklace?

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. take wifee w/ you and see what floats her boat, size, color, etc... whatever you buy, just be sure to get a secure clasp; I bought Mrs. Buzz a pearl necklace for about a grand many years ago, that she picked out, and all was well until a couple of years ago when the clasp came undone and it slipped down the hole in the toilet she was flushing in an airplane lavatory... expensive lesson.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

Don't wear pearls with baby, either. Was in church one day and heard an entire string of pearls hit the floor after a little tot popped her Mom's necklace. The Church is slanted toward the alter a bit... they all hit, clattered and then rolled... noisily.

Don't ask who the bell's for, dude. It's you.

One bit of advice: never get pearls wet.
