Can anyone recommend a macro lens for my SX-40?

Looking for a macro lens for my SX-40. I don't know lenses and I see offers all over but no idea if they are junk or not. I don't need a pro lens but I don't want the eBay scam crap either. Ideally Amazon would be the source as I have a pile of points to use. Thanks.

The SX-40 does not have interchangeable lenses. You have to use the built in Macro Mode.

Here is a video tutorial for that: [www.youtube.com]
(I have not watched it, no idea how good it is)

Don't own a sx-40 but tried one of those 4x and "fish-eye' snap-ons for an iphone and they were pretty sad pieces of "glass". Cool toys but not much more. I was in Hong Kong so who knows what I was looking at. It was good for a laugh whatever it was.

you could get screw on filters (assuming the -40 has a filter mount...) that are essntially magnifying glass. they work ok.

How close up do you want to be? With the 40 you need to not zoom out to try to get "closer". If you keep it at the 24mm to, say, 50mm setting, then you can switch to Macro mode and it does a good job getting close. If you zoom out to a long telephoto setting, and I know you'd think that would work, it doesn't focus close.
In the Macro mode, I've gotten close up and almost touched the (e.g.) bug I was shooting. I'll look for some of those pix tomorrow to show you.

I watched the video and it seems that with a little fiddling I should be able to get it to do what I need. I'm not really a 'technician' when it comes to photography and I mostly shoot in 'Auto' mode with great results. I guess learning about Manual mode and a few other tricks won't kill me.

Thanks all!
