Mail.app problems

Using the latest and greatest mail.app on an up to date MBP (2 weeks old), strange problems this am. Nothing new installed or run on the computer, but today, I can't reply or forward email. Hitting the reply or forward button gets a spinning beachball and application not responding in activity monitor. I have to force quit.

Any suggestions?
