saw an add watching the morning news. The offer is at the bottom of the page

They give you a FREE Digital antenna to get over the air TV, and they offer low cost internet ($25/month, no contract).

Why would they advertise this, when they are a cable company, just like Comcast?

From 2015:

Cablevision Debuts “Cord Cutter” Packages Combining Broadband, Free Antennas, And Optional HBO NOW

Cablevision made headlines as the first pay-TV provider to offer HBO’s new standalone service HBO NOW to its broadband customers, and today the cable company is again targeting cord cutters with new packages combining internet, a free digital antenna, and the option to bundle in HBO NOW if they choose. The “cord cutter package” as one bundle is officially called, is one of two new offerings the company announced today – the other combining a slower internet option, the antenna and a Wi-Fi voice service.

Explains Kristin Dolan, Cablevision CEO, in a statement announcing the new bundles, “as a connectivity company, Cablevision is reimagining its relationship with its customers.”

Dolan adds that the packages are meant to provide “real alternatives that fit new consumer lifestyles.”

Specifically, the company notes that it’s going after “cord cutters” – those who are abandoning their pricy cable TV subscriptions, as well as so-called “cord nevers” – meaning those younger consumers who simply never sign up for cable TV in the first place...

Interesting. I'm currently a FIOS customer with internet and phone. Am considering dropping the phone (don't use it except to get robot calls....), but Verizon doesn't really give me the option. This could fit the bill.

Bixby,

I've got FIOS Internet and a solid TV package. I inquired about the cost of Internet only and then Internet with a very basic TV package. Internet only (50/50) cost more $$$ than Internet (50/50) with the basic local TV package with 1 HD box.

So, if we wanted to slim down our bill, we'd opt for 50/50 internet, get the most basic TV package and one box. That gives us our high speed access to the internet at the lower price with the bonus of FIOS Local HD TV for one TV and FIOS local TV in SD for TVs that don't have a box. And, it'd cost less than Internet by itself.

If we wanted to get slick and get more content on the cheap, we'd opt for that double-play package, add OTA antennas to the TVs that don't have a box to get local content in HD on them and order SlingTV for the equivalent of a live cable package. We'd just access SlingTV via streaming boxes. Once we go that route, we'd have a tremendous amount of live content and it'd cost less than FIOS Internet and our existing package (with boxes).

Robert
