I think that it's a real cheesy move on Adobe's part to pollute their updates with 'Free' BS extras.

Don't EVER do that - if that message appears, CLOSE IT and go to adobe.com and find the updater from THERE. You've been suckered and let's hope that nothing worse is going on.

Adobe is not doing that.

Adobe is not doing that.
Oh, yes they are, at least on the PC side. I always download my Flash updates manually from Adobe's web site. During the update, there is one screen that indicates that additional non-Adobe software (Yahoo! and McAfee come to mind) will be installed by default - I have to check the boxes in order for the third-party software to not be installed.
EDIT: I just checked - it's actually during the download process itself that I need to uncheck those boxes. Presumably the Adobe web site will download different installers depending on which boxes are checked on this page.
EDIT #2: Actually, that screenshot is for Adobe Reader, which I just installed by accident (grrrr!!). However, the same options appear on the download page for Flash (which I just downloaded).

Even the Adobe installer for OS X defaults to making Yahoo your search engine and used to include a few other things.

Then tell that to Adobe, it was in the installer I downloaded direct from them and was not for a PC. You get to that point and have to uncheck the choice to finish.

Sheesh…just uninstall the stupid thing. Do you really need it, goodmanx, or do you just think you need it?

I tried, but there ARE places on the web where you do need it. I watch Conan upstairs in my home office while doing paperwork in the evening. No cable box there, so the only way to tune in is on my iMac, passed over to a 42" screen. There are still many places where Flash is the only option.
On a sidenote, why the frack do they update it so often? Not just that, but they *BREAK* the older version so it won't work until you update. That seems uncalled for.
I would love to divorce Flash, but it's still needed for certain things.

thanx for all your comments and advice.
yes, aa, i think i need it. not sure, tho. the epic browser i use is wonky about playing videos; i'm never sure what will or will not play nor why.
i think y'all're are prob'ly right that i got hijacked and that the upgrade message wasn't really from adobe. i'll certainly be more circumspect in the future.
is there a way to insect the downloaded installer to determine it's source?

today i got message in my browser that i needed to update adobe flashplayer.
It was a fake flash-update alert designed to make you install trojans/adware.
NEVER download Flash from anywhere other than the [get.adobe.com] site or via the Flash Player icon in the System Preferences.
Now run the Malwarebytes scanner.
