Just curious what brand of hard drive used in the OWC miniStack v2. They list a 250 GB for $149.00. Hoping they are Seagate.

you could always bare the bare case and add your own drive...

Yes I did that before, but installing my own drive was kind of difficult. It is a tight fit and once installed the whole case was kind of warped and did not sit flat. I had to put a piece of foam underneath it.

I'm just really tired of buying external cases. Most of them are junk. I just bought one that looked pretty good, but when it came time to install the drive, nothing quite fit correctly. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a good quality case. Maybe the OWC Elite would be a good choice, but I kind of like the form factor on the miniStack.

We list the exact HD mechanism details as part of every NewerTech and OWC drive solution description.

Also - the relationships we have allow us to further extend the warranty of the HD mechanism to our customers. The solution has a 2 Year full warranty - the Seagate inside has an additional 3 years for a total of 5 years on the HD mech.

Win - Win. smiling smiley

i have built 2 mini stacks, drives were "tight" but they fit without warping

you should contact OWC tech support if your drives fit that way, its not correct

i have the OWC AL ones personally, no issues with anything =)

I do like the form factor on my miniStack. I think I will just order the complete unit with drive installed. The price is about the same anyway. After looking around I got a 250 GB Seagate at Best Buy on Black Friday for $60.00 plus tax. I can order the OWC miniStack with drive for $149.00 so it is about the same. I've always had perfect service from OWC. Maybe I will ask them about that warpage when I order. It hasn't really been a big issue.
