You underestimate its obnoxiousness. It happens more than once a day. I caved in and let it update my Mini 4, since that one is stuck with iTunes 12 for syncing anyway. Holding off on my iPhone and Air 2.

…or you could do it the easy way:

System Preferences
App Store
Uncheck Automatically check for updates

Oh, how I wish I could do this for my iOS devices.

True. I just gave in earlier today on my iPhone 5 and installed iOS 10.

Hmmm, clyde didn't specify iOS or Mac OS.

I despise this. For example, I keep getting told there is an update to keynote in keynote - but it's not true. You need Sierra to get that update. I'm not able to go to Sierra on my work machine. So I will be getting that message until I do. No way to turn off that massage as far as I can tell.

How do you use Linux to turn off macOS update notifications?

Could it be that Linux is a non-Mac OS and would neither need nor be compatible with Mac OS updates??

Just a guess…

Yeah, that could be, clyde.

On the other hand, Linux distros of all kinds also pester you about updates. Go figure.
