How Many Emails?

all this talk in the news of people having tens of thousands of emails on their computer makes me wonder how many are stored on mine. i know i have about 250 unread ones but how would i get a full count?

At the top of the Apple Mail inbox screen I am told that I have 12,250 messages stored.

All of them read. Every now and again I'll sort by sender and delete collections from one no-longer-useful sources, but obviously I don't do that enough.

but i've always assumed that was just what was in the Inbox. some of my messages are stored in a category folder.

Right click on your inbox and select "Get Account Info"

Mine says 58,069

One email account from work I view through Thunderbird most of the time. It gives me counts of teh number of messages in each folder, but I have never bothered to total them all up. But the Inbox is listed at 22,000+ messages. It would be higher, but when I got bored during chemo treatments 6 years ago I culled a lot of messages out.

I have about 25k emails but 15k of them are in my Sent folder which is set to never delete. I changed that so it should be much less shortly. I have subfolders for things I need to keep. My inbox is usually less than 20 messages that are all actionable.

My last job with a fairly busy account, I was keeping about 800 MB of mail a month, quick guess was I got 90 a day and kept about a third of those. I had to archive it once a month to keep from going over the server limit of 10 GB. My boss got up to 1000 real work related per day. He spent about a half hour a week working on rules to sort it automatically.

Get account info is not counting mine. Says 640, but I have 1200 from one client. Im POP, not sure if that matters.

I also have multiple folders.

Inbox says 4245.

That used to be me at work. Thankfully I'm on to a different project where I only get about 50 a day now. And probably at least another 50 in my non-work accounts.

About 45,000, per Thunderbird.
Approximately 99% of those are since 2003, as I thinned out my 1997 hotmail account that year.

I just took a quick look-through; man, does Newegg ever send out loads of emails!
Maybe that's why I prefer OWC (that's for you, Larry!)
