Best checking account software?

Have always used Quicken for a digital register. We do not connect to bank, just use it to balance and search categories for payments.

Any suggestions on best software to use for checking accounts?

I have been using Quicken for 20 years on a Mac. Now on Quicken 2016. Works great for reports at the end of the year when your doing taxes. And the new reconcile feature, works well, as I did not have any problems with my accounts in the past. Duplicates etc.

Now there is Quicken 2017 out.

I like using Direct Connect with my Credit Union but the problem is I also like to use the mobile App. And when I use both, something happens, and the Mobile app, screws with the Online Balance of my Credit Union accounts. Or double downloads them. Seems like it is only me, because I have tried to get support for over 2 years, no help.

So I use Quicken Connect.

Works perfectly with Mobile App.

Somebody want to buy Quicken 2017 with me

Micro,

Does Quicken 2016 have a "Reconciliation" report like the one in Quicken 2007? This is a key report and it was removed from later versions of Quicken. I'll consider upgrading to Quicken 2017 if it has the report. Otherwise, not a chance.

I use Jumsoft Money and have been since about 2012. It's not without its quirks (I don't like how it handles if I return an item for a refund, it counts that as income as opposed to crediting it against the expense category in my budget), but it works well for me, on all my Apple devices (I use it with dropbox on two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad) and I don't download transactions, I key them all in manually. I also reconcile all my accounts and credit cards every month.

Since I never used any thing but early Quicken, and Quicken Essentials, and now 2015, and 2016, I don't know what a reconcile report would be.

What does it generate to show?

I changed from Q'07 to MoneyDance a few years back. It ain't perfect, but quite happy.
I haven't looked to see what changes or improvements they've made for the new version.

Just a bit o' background for my opinion. I own MoneyDance, LiquidLedger, Quicken since it was version 1.5 (1986), MYOB, now AccountEdge, way overkill, but I also do accounting for NGO, and I've tried every single checking software ever made I think. Still for me, nothing is as good as the terrible company Intuit's Quivken, bunch of knuckleheads who run the bidness.

Hi everyone,

I use Moneydance for many accounts. There are a couple I _can't_ use in Moneydance or the other alternatives to Quicken because they all lack the "reconciliation" report. Every last one of them. Yet, it's a report my account considers critical.

The developers include this report and that report and this graph and that graph, many of which are totally useless. Yet, one report deemed critical by an accountant, they refuse to include. Sheer stubborn stupidity as far I'm concerned. This is especially true of Intuit which _had_ the report and intentionally removed it.

I can't imagine it would be difficult to design one that works like the report in Quicken 2007. I even gave the developers of Moneydance a sample. So, it isn't like they are unaware of it. Again, stubborn stupidity as far as I'm concerned.

Robert M, can you please explain (probably once again) what this "reconciliation" report is all about? Thanks

Space,

Check out the PDFs attached to this thread at the Infinite Kind support site. They publish Moneydance. I posted sample reconciliation reports for them.

I can't fathom why it is so difficult for developers to include this report in their financial apps. Stubborn stupidity.

I worked in Excel for many years and built my accounting file using Excel. My main file has a workbook for my checking account, a workbook for my credit cards, a workbook that prints checks (which it reads from the checkbook), and summary workbooks that summarize activities that have been posted to a monthly statement, activities that have cleared but not yet posted, and activities that have not yet cleared.
