Is there a utility to change the behavior of the full screen button?

I guess this feature arrived two OS'es ago, where you click the green button and the window goes full screen, hiding the menu bar.

Of course if you hit option click, it goes back to the traditional, old way of expanding the window.

Is there a utility that will make it the default way of working?

Thanks.

Better Touch Tool can do this, as well as perform other functions. It's not free, but it's under $10.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the product page and selecting "View Additional Features!" provides a list of functions which includes: "Configure what happens when right-clicking a window’s close/minimize/fullscreen button"

It seems it is not compatible with the 2016 MBP yet, but might be worth a try. I've not tried it myself; if you do try it, let us know how it works for you.

I suspect that any utility that does that probably takes advantage of a simple Terminal command, but unless it's cut and paste, Terminal commands are out of my wheelhouse.

Yeah same here: Option > Click What? El Cap here and what browser...

Edit: Did a little searching and now understand -- if any one's interested..

In El Capitan, using FF click on the green icon button = full screen. Then to get it back to the original size, Control Click the top tab bar select "Exit Full Screen Mode".

In Safari & TextEdit, Option Click green icon button = full screen
Option Click green icon button Again takes you back to the original size.

MS Office 2011, Click green icon button = full screen
Esc key returns spreed sheet or window to original size.

option-click still does nothing here
if I want the menu bar to reappear in full screen mode I have to scroll the mouse pointer up to it to unhide it. In Safari the red/yellow/green buttons then reappear. In Chrome the red/yellow/green buttons are never hidden.

Probably some main menu pref setting
