Martini Vodka? (Bar advice #2)

What about a vodka for martinis? Recommendations? Just a good brand name? Or does it make a difference even though mixed?

Don't ask who the bell's for, dude. It's you.

High brand loyaly among martini drinkers.

I keep Grey Goose, Skyy & Absolut on hand. Covers most people.

Absolut man, myself. I like the bartender to barely pretend to add vermouth, Three Queen olives. Super cold, no rocks.

If you'll indulge me, I will now impart my recently-departed father's Final Message to the World:

"A MARTINI IS MADE WITH GIN, DAMMIT!"

We are seriously -- seriously -- thinking of putting this on his tombstone.

Agreed that martinis are made with gin (Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire please).

As for vodka, I like Absolut and Ketel One.

A real Martini is made with Bombay Sapphire GIN, everthing else is CRAP!

Strength without compassion is brutality. Compassion without strength is weakness.

We must train our minds to desire what the situation demands.

Agreed on the Bombay Sapphire Gin part.

Vodka martinis are for the uncouth.

I'm rather confused as to how people can be so brand loyalist with a product that aims for purity.

Vodka is for adding to fruit juice. Gin is for martinis.

Gin is for tonics.

Gin is a woman's drink

Murphy approached Mulligan's bar. On the step outside he was accosted by a nun, Sister Marie, who said:

'Surely a fine man like yourself is not going into this den of iniquity? Surely you're not going to waste your hard-earned cash on the devil's brew. Why don't you go home and feed and clothe your wife and children?'

'Hang on, Sister,' spluttered Murphy. 'How can you condemn alcohol out of hand? Surely it's wrong to form such a rash judgement when you've never tasted the stuff?'

'Very well,' said Sister Marie. I'll taste it just to prove my point. Obviously I can't go into the pub, so why don't you bring me some gin. Oh, and just to camouflage my intent, maybe you should bring it in a cup not a glass!'

'OK,' said Murphy and into the bar he breezed.

'I'll have a large gin,' he said to the barman. 'And can you put it in a cup?'

'My God,' said the barman, 'that nun's not outside again is she?'

Herb Caen the mentor of SF Chronicle always dictated no martini has vodka. Words to drink by.
