Your favorite recent 'Great' Apple product - post here

Released last 5 years.

Product name and why it's 'Great.'

Great does not necessarily mean perfect.

My vote:

The 12" retina MacBook. It's really mobile - under 2lbs so it doesn't have to be put away on a flight. A million compromises, but Apple made a great niche product.

Got a refurb early '13 MBPR 15". The Retina screen is gorgeous and I use the MBP as a backup mostly for my photo biz so the screen is "great"!
But I plan on keeping this for quite a while-I don't plan on buying any of the new Apple offerings if I can help it. Starting to price me out of the market with not only price increases but having to buy proprietary peripherals and accessories.

I love both of my newest Apple buys-iPhone 7 and Apple TV 4. iPhone just works as it should and the screen and camera are great! I love the Apple TV 4 because of Siri search and the ability to pick and choose apps. I haven't found a game I really want yet, but I'm a little cheap on that front. I have watched a bunch of movies. Happy consumer.

Still love my iPhone 6, but loved it more before I made the mistake of putting iOS 10 on it. Also like my refurb 2012 MBP. Love my Mac Pro, refurb bought in 2012.

mid- 2012 MBP

Upgradable, optical drive, minimal dongles, affordable. No MBP released since has interested me in the least.

Has to be my Apple watch and iPhone 6S+ I got about a year ago.

I like the watch much more than I thought I would, and the iPhone was a pretty big jump from my 7 year old iPhone 3GS. Both have been performing like champs.

I think Apple has made many great iPhones these past 5 years. I think the 4, 4S, 5S, and 6 series are truly great products. I, too, find this 6S+ a terrific iPhone. Won't count the iPhone 7 yet - too much uncertainty with regard to wireless connectivity to be truly great yet.

My son loves his iPad mini 2 - that was a no compromise upgrade over the original mini.

I'll cheat, and say six years -- the iPad.

It's no longer sexy, and doesn't sell as rapidly as it once did, but as a tool, it's vastly underappreciated and works so well it flies under the radar.

Android phones have become equals of, if not surpassed iPhones, but Android tablets still lag behind.

The problem Apple faces with iPad sales is similar in some respects to that with Macs.

Their lasting utility and long support cycles allow users who aren't on the update treadmill hold onto their units longer and skip generations.

It nicely bridges the gap between the iPhone and the Mac.

iPad Mini 2, perfect and I love it. The Mini 4 is even more perfect as it has an even better LCD screen.

Honorable Mentions:

any 13" Retina MacBook Pro
2012 Quad Core Minis
any core i5 11.6" MacBook Air

I use and enjoy the last 2 immensely (I have a 2011 MBA) and I openly covet the first one.

iPhone 5 is pretty awesome.
Same can be said for my 15" MacBook pro retina
The 4th generation Apple TV is pretty darned nice too.

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I loved...loved...LOVED my iPhone 6s/64GB. Bought it last Christmas. Performed flawlessly.

And then Verizon had to send me an email about trading it in for an iPhone 7/32GB for Free. Well, Verizon's version of free.

I stood there looking at the iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus. The larger screen was impossible to pass up. I ended up with the iPhone 7 Plus/128GB model. My tired eyes thank me daily.

And while I was out doing some last minute shopping I stopped at Best Buy and checked out the Apple TV 4. The more I messed with it, the more I liked it. I decided to spring for the 64GB model and was pleasantly surprised it was on sale for $169. SOLD!

I am still using my iPad Air but I'm lusting after the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. Not sure if I would stick with 9.7" size or go with the 12.9" behemoth. Maybe my old eyes will love the bigger screen.

I did check out the MacBook Pro 13 with the Touch Bar. Before I got a chance to see one in the flesh, I kind of thought it was gimmicky. But after spending some time using it, I am thinking it could be a very useful feature.

I'm still using my 2006 MacPro upgraded to Dual Quad x5365 processors, 1TB SSD, ATi 5770, 16GB RAM. I lust after something newer but really...it's hard to justify it when I don't really use it for heavy work these days.

I'm still VERY happy with the 17", Matte Screen MBP I ordered the day after Apple EOLed it. It's just over 4.5 years old and, with the 16GB of RAM I added plus the 1TB Samsung SSD, it's still going strong. I regularly use the variety of ports as well as the DVD SuperDrive. I do NOT see myself downgrading to a smaller screen when this workhorse must finally be put out to pasture.

That's great tech, but not unprecedented. It's a payment system that uses a neat encryption method.

Look at what the lowly "Touch" has brought to fruition.

I consider "great" to be something groundbreaking. Something that shatters what came before in a dramatic fashion. But I suppose it could be used for also-ran products too.
