AppleScript to change Display color-depth?

Man, I am TOO rusty with AppleScript!

I need an Applescript to just channge the number of colors the monitor is displaying.. (from Thousands to Millions)..

Why?
Becuase the "Student" account can't access the System Preferences, and I need to be able to remotely change the number of colors for some applications using an older version of Remote Desktop (1.2).

Appreciate any syntax tips!

If OS X can't you just set it up to display in the menu bar and bypass the system preferences? Or will the system still not display it because of the student account being restricted??

Unfortunately in order to do that, I need to first allow access to the System preferences to get that to display in the menu bar (unless there's a way to put it there I'm not aware of), then disable it again..

That would take all day to do to the computers in the lab...

I've been needing something like this, too. But can't figure out how to script it. It SHOULD BE easy.

You'd think so!!!

I'd even be happy with a cron script... if I knew anything about 'em...
