Upgraded to a "new to me" iMac - Photos sucks!

I hadn't realized that iPhoto has become Photos.

I shoot youth hockey for my son's team. I shoot about 250-350 shots depending on how much action is. I go through and delete most, but usually end up with about 10% of them as decent. Then I crop and adjust them.

I had it down to a science. I could upload my results to our team Shutterfly website and everyone was happy. Now with Photos it literally takes 3 times as much time! I always crop to 8X10. It won't remember this. Each photo I have to select 8X10. Every deleted photo must be confirmed. I have to export photos then upload them to Shutterfly as they have taken out the ability to "talk" to shutterfly.

Why did they screw it up so much? iPhoto did about everything I needed.

Can someone explain why they turned it into a piece of crap?

JPK

At least for now, you can still get iPhoto. I did.

Just make sure you've downloaded iPhoto from the App Store, then you should be able to snag a copy that runs on newer versions of OS X. I did this on an old system where iPhoto was part of the original installation, then when I upgraded I was able to get an updated version. If you haven't previously downloaded a copy though, it won't show up in your "purchased" history making it next to impossible to get a copy.

would one be able to install iPhoto via iLife DVD?
would there be any way to then get updated versions?

JPK

it was there a few weeks ago. I know since I was able to download it from App store. Now on this machine I have it installed, so I cannot look up the link (yes, App store is that stupid, if I have an App installed, it won't let me click on it, it just says Installed). I will log in to another machine and I will see if I can find the link there.

My biggest gripe with Photos is that it does a TERRIBLE job at keeping up to date with my photo stream or other cloud photos that are not stored in the cloud.

My older iMac running iPhoto does this great (and is my photo archive machine).

Apple - you are NOT getting me to upgrade my iCloud just for the privilege of having Photos work properly.
