Looking for Podcast suggestions! "What are YOU listening to regularly?"
Posted by: Paul F.

I've gotten in the habit of listening to podcasts in my car on the way back and forth to work... I'm finding it much nicer than the radio (crappy music with 14 minutes of commericals in a 30 minute trip, or 30 minutes of ranting on talk radio).

I would love some suggestions for podcasts I may not have found yet on any of the following NOT POLITICAL topics;
Travel
History
Space/Aerospace
Food

I've already subscribed and worked my way through a lot of back episodes of;
The Alton Browncast (Highly recommend it, by the way! A lot more than just food going on there...)
Americas Test Kitchen Radio
The Budget Minded Traveler (she's a bit of a ding dong, but a lot of good guests and travel tips)
Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Podcast. He's a deeper guy that just blowing $#@! up...
Stuff You Missed In History Class (Highly recommend...)
The Splendid Table
Bon Apetit Foodcast (getting a little old... focuses on "food celebrities" more than the FOOD).
The Extra Pack of Peanuts Travel Podcast
Thinking Sideways (too many murder mysteries, but OK...)
History Extra Podcast (by the BBC... excellent, if focused on the UK).
Travel with Rick Steves (after listening for years, I think he's just flat run out of anything new to talk about... it's awfully repetitive in recent years).
The World Wanderers Podcast.

So what are YOU listening to regularly?

The Skeptics Guide to the Universe
Nature podcast
Science podcast
Astronomycast
Stuff You Missed In History Class
60-Second Science
QuackCast
Freakonomics Radio
Radiolab

There are lots of other good ones but I don't have the time to listen so these make the cut.

It's not a podcast, but could be ripped to a computer and put on an iPod/phone:

Star Wars: radio drama made for NPR, all three movies available. Listening to them on CD to and from work. Great fun!

My list is:

Planet Money (NPR)
RadioLab (WNYC)
99Percent Invisible (PRI)
ScienceFriday
Quirks and Quarks (CBC)

My wife does a weekly podcast too, so I'd be remiss if I didn't plug it, but honestly, it isn't one of my favorites. It's her and a girlfriend talking about their quest for romance, beauty, and wanderlust...I'm obviously failing as a spouse...

Another vote for 99% Invisible.

Also in the history realm:

History of WWII (May be too much detail, but good)
China History Podcast (Interesting non-academic. Moves around in time, not just linear)
Revolutions (by Mike Duncan to came to fame with another called the History of Rome (now completed.)

all on itunes. If trying just one, go for Revolutions, or go back to the History of Rome.

PS I like the Browncast as well, just wish they did it consistently...

Mine tend to be tech focused, but here is my current favorites list, in no particular order:

The HDTV Podcast
MacBreak Weekly
Home Theater Geeks
This Week in Tech
Security Now

And another vote for Star Wars - The Radio Drama. It has supplanted my podcast listening until I get through the series. Great way to revisit an old favorite!

I forgot this one:

Mike Rowe's "The Way I Heard It"
[itunes.apple.com]

Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs tells a unique stories of people from the past. For example, I learned that Johnny Cash was the first American to learn of Joseph Stalin's death. He was a codebreaker in the Air Force signal corps.

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

people generally like him or hate him, but I find his podcasts to be highly entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny at times.

they do tend to be raw, language-wise, so not for listening while the kids or sensitive adults are around.

The podcast is still doggedly trying to confirm rumors about Cesar Romero's rumored predilection for having orange wedges tossed at his bare bottom. In separate episodes, TV Batman Adam West and Julie Newmar could not, or would not, confirm or deny.
